G Guest Apr 17, 2006 #3 Sodium carbonate or bicarbonate is not recommended because sodium becomes toxic rather quickly. Anything with carbonate or bicarbonate in it will also increase you pH buffering capacity. If this is not desired, try potassium hydroxide instead.
