On the Leos side, whether those cameras cost 30.000 or 5.000 does not make a big difference.
On the growers side, if those cameras reach a low price (like 1000 or whatever), many will be able to buy one and make the Leos ones useless... he he !

you can buy 35mm film that will develop as a "thermal image"... may be cheaper than everything. if anybody asks, you were documenting your houses siding/whatever

kodak still makes a 35mm film called high speed infared has to be loaded in to the camera in absolute darkness and there are special filters that are either a very dark red or look black that only transmit infared i think the kodak wratten # is 87 or 89b those are infared only and i think the small amount of red light w/ infared is wratten # 70 i think i paid $50 for the infared only glass filter for my camera some time ago however some digital cameras have sensors that reach far into infared and can be used with these filters you would have to get tech specs on the sensors in a particular camera to know if this would work for you but either way if you have a 35mm film camera that has manual settings the filter and a tripod and light meter you can get a ?15-25 $ roll of film and do it yourself
on the cheap kodak probably has a tech flier on this but i don't know details and last time i called tech services at kodak with a question about an old style B&W film that was a kodak standard for years that was out of production i knew more about it then the kodak employee tied to his computer and he didn't offer to check older paper archives [i've gotten better answers
from older photo folk that remember the 50's and used big negative cameras[like ansel adams]
you could try looking up industrial photography techniques and heat loss and signatures....

You can purchase a FLUKE infrared camera for $4500.00 and it is the size of a 35mm style camera. This technology is mature and prices will continue to come down. Most have a digital and infrared built into a single unit. 80% of the cost is actually in the lens and not the electronics that’s why as the technology matured the prices came down.

As I have said before it will be common practice for police to have these cameras in most cars. The uses do not stop at busting potheads (what I call myself) they will be useful in nighttime situations for safety reasons. I have no real insight but it seems like the path forward as prices continue to drop. Take a look at your average city patrol car now it is fit with thousands of dollars of equipment now. Hell, you can’t even sit in the passenger side of most cop cars.
