Any suggestions on dealing effectively with thugs and vandals would be appreciated. We've had a dysfunctional family on the block for many years, and it's gotten to the point that we're fed up with their Bullshit. Since the great-grandma died a few months ago, it's gotten even worse, and as soon as warm weather hits, things will probably escalate.
Mental illness, hard drug abuse/dealing, vandalism, and threats of violence have us on edge. We've done all the "right" things, calling the cops, filing for a restraining order, etc. etc., but the bottom line is that when push comes to shove, we're probably going to be on our own.
It's not as if the cops don't know ... heck, one of the neighbors is a cop and though he had the place watched, there wasn't enough "traffic" that week to justify a warrant.
The two 25 - 30 years olds have both been locked-up previously, their "uncle nut-bar" was caught at a nearby supermarket trolling for action in the mens-room, and his "down-low" lover is a large black thug on parole. A few days before the Super Bowl, somebody OD'd and died there, which didn't stop them from having a party on Sunday night. How festive.
There were enough police calls to their house that it was put on a "problem property" list, but that only lasted a year. ( "Uncle nut-bar" pulled a knife on his nephews who were trying to get upstairs to swipe grandma's disability/Social Security check. )
There was a time when we would have taken direct action, but given our advanced age, the mind is probably stronger than the body. Emptying a clip into them would fix things in the short term, but we'd rather not face the consequences of such rash action. So, we need an effective, yet subtle, strategy, something short of tossing a fire-bomb through their window. Any ideas short of calling the Feds?
