solarmax bulbs also run really well on digi ballasts.. lower failure rate than hortilux but still deliver full spectrum lighting.. id go with a solarmax or ushio... both made in germany

I run the Ushio MHconv and HPS in my Lumatek 600w ballast. The first time the MH fired up it looked like a laser Floyd concert for 10 seconds in my tent and I was worried, but they've both like the ballast since. About 6 months on each bulb.
If you get the Ushio HPS 600, the best price by far I found was Ebay. 3 packs

Thanks for the info fellas....

Seems the Ushio is very popular.

Kcar......have you been able to compare that Lumatek bulb to others?

Second question....

I have the dimmable ballast.I can see a substantial difference in color from the bulb if I set my ballast at the 400 or 360 watt setting.......why is this???ALOT more red at the lower settings.

Thanks again guys

Bud Bug

The most reliable

Any of the cheap Phillips and GE bulbs.

Next would be Ushio

Last would be
SolarMax
Hortilux
Gavita
Chrome Dome- don't even bother with these on digital ballasts if you care about safety.

For the same reason that fire changes color the hotter it gets.

I'm running 4 1000w plantmax bulbs in my 1000w Lumatek Dimmables - no problems at all.

-

I've also ran Solarmax and Ushios on my 9 600w setup. All worked just fine, couldnt tell a difference between the 2 brands

While some claim incompatibility issues with Hortilux lamp and Lumateks I have SEVERAL friends running the combination with 0 issues. They all have relatively new lumateks so maybe they've ironed the kinks people have experienced with older lumateks.

- If I dont see a reduction in yield with the Plantmax bulbs I plan to continue to run them - changing them for new EVERY grow.

Sun Pulse works great with Digital. The Eye bulbs are hit and miss. I have had some work great for a while and others go out. Ushio is probably your best choice. I like them.

I have run quite a few 600 hps bulbs. Dont ever go cheap! Right now the ushio bulb is rocking it for me. Had hortilux but switched to the cheaper and slightly brighter ushio. Also with dimmable ballasts like blackline you can dial to 660 watts....waaaaatts uppppp!
