your example of Axe spray is not propaganda thats simply marketing.
propaganda does relate to reefer madness and the false shit the government tries to feed us, but even that is not really propaganda its simply the law being backed up by excuses.
a good example of real propaganda is usually found in war or politics. one example is during World War II, when the Americans were about to invade Okinawa and mainland Japan. The Japanese government lied to their own people and spread propaganda that the americans were savages who would rape and pillage them. They spread this through radio messsages and pictures of US G.I.s roasting japanese children. This is real deal propaganda because they are spreading the total opposite of the truth. This propaganda also had direct consequences, many japanese committed suicide before the americans invaded. Some even murdered their own families, they would jump off cliffs instead of being capture by the Americans, who would have given them help and food if they surrendered.
In the case of Axe or Reefer Madness, its not all entirely false misguided information. Maybe 5% of reefer madness is true, marijuana can give you cancer, blah blah blah. And some girls do like AXE smell i know this because my ex always told me to shower with that shit because she liked going down on me after i axe'd my nuts up LOL.

Anyone see the "should I smoke dope" show where they spoke of how cannabis puts holes in your lungs and can make them collapse. Seemed pretty scary bullshit to me. Any truth to that? I doubt it because we would have smokers going down with one lung left and right. Idk something applicable I was thinking about. Peace and smoke.

There's a line somewhere between 'spin' and propaganda, but I'm not sure where it is.
It's one thing (spin) to (repeatedly) show an anti-marijuana ad that simply highlights negatives, and ignores all positives.
It's another (propaganda) to show ads which blatently state falsehood as truth.
It's difficult to get any news that isn't spun in some fashion any more, I think.

i thought propaganda (in the real sense of the word, not how it's used nowadays) was just "nationalism in advertising".... like a poster that makes you proud to be an american, or an article that makes you agree with your government....
now its any kind of advertising or news that someone else doesn't agree with lol

Propaganda is everywhere.
An example is television.
Check out PBS (the Rockerfeller channel) and you will get LOADS of propaganda. The television shows that have an E/I logo that are shown during the day are marketed for stay at home children...one of the shows dealt with H1N1 Immunization . I sat on my couch stupified as to why of bunch animated children are singing about viral infections and antibodies and how imperative immunization is to remain healthy!
How many times do you hear about global warming? Wait, I think it was called green house gases....no no...its called climate change. "Climate change is bad" says brian williams and katie couric with their piercing blue eyes gazing into your dull lifeless hypnotized ones as the screen flashes at 300 frames a second...the usually white skinned puppet onscreen is believed by MILLIONS who are also gazing at their telescreens, um I mean television screens.
Funny how I dont recall ever hearing of a book called 1984 when I was in high school. Its by George Orwell....it deals with the issue of propaganda to the EXTREME. If you want a glimpse into the future...there it is.
How effective is propaganda?
For starters people actually believe:
- that HIV is a real virus
- that chemotherapy helps
- that flouridated tap water is good for you
- that their beef was fed grass and grazed by cowboys
- that its safe to put a cell phone next to their brain for several hours
- that the president is actually the most powerful in the world...ha ha !
- that their tax money helps build America ( more like propagates world suffering)
-that "sacrifice" means leaving your children at home to be raised by tv and federal government (school) while you slave away, literally, earning a wage in the form of a currency that has no value whatsoever...in fact its actually DEBT.
I could go on for hours...
This country is a great example of the victories of the propaganda techniques mastered by the Nazi's, the New Socialists, who had infiltrated Europe, South America, and North America in a masterfully orchestrated scheme which seems only the devil himself could conjure.
the unites states IS the fourth reich.
Check out Rise of the Fourth Reich by Jim Marrs.
interesting note : Hitler was actually part Jewish, and his right hand man Max Borman was also Jewish...and Borman probably didnt die in that plane crash...and that the bombs dropped over Nagasaki and Heroshima were made in GERMANY.

Yea - originally propaganda was defined to be appealing to the sentiments of ppl, such as appealing to nationalistic qualities in a person.
However I agree with AB saying that it's pretty much evolved into anything that ppl don't agree with... lol
