80 MILLION DOLLAR MARIJUANA BUST
On Wednesday August 18th, Eddy’s Medicinal Gardens, in Upper Lake, CA, was the site of what could be the largest medical marijuana bust in history. During the raid, the DEA seized 25,000 marijuana plants, conservatively valuing the crop at 80 million dollars.
Eddy Lepp, who owns the 25-acre property, was arrested with charges of cultivation, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, and possession of a firearm. 16 others, who were on the property that morning, were also taken into police custody, but then released.
Lepp is being arraigned in Federal Court on Thursday, August 26th, at 10am in San Francisco. He is also appearing in court at 2:00pm for a suit he has against the Federal Government for 67 million dollars, for seizing his marijuana crop in 2002. In his suit, he is also asking for the complete shut down of the DEA.
“What they’re doing to us is wrong, and we’ll prove it,†Lepp claims passionately, “This is about rights now, not marijuana.â€
Protestors gathered the day after the arrest at both Eddy’s Medicinal Gardens and in San Francisco, where Lepp was being held, protesting his arrest and the seizure of his crop. Many say that they plan to return to San Francisco to protest before and during the arraignment on Thursday.
