Without posting your medium, potsize, and nutrient regimen, its hard to advise on preventing salt buildup.
I will say however, there are several other major problems you can run into if you are not watering with runoff or watering too infrequently in small pots. In fact, I would argue the stunted growth you get from over/under watering or having dry pockets in your soil are more detrimental than excess salt buildup (and much more difficult/impossible to remedy)
Also, remember to always start at a 1/2 strength feeding schedule for any new nutrient line until you become familiar with it.
