First of all guys, I don't have all the answers. I'm not an egotist. I'm more like a deep thinker, a dreamer. Sometimes as I go through each day, I have ideas pop into my head and later I forget what I was thinking. But this is one that has stuck with me.
I don't live in California at present (not yet, anyway). I mention CA because that's where all the attention was last year with Prop 19. I followed very closely, although, I knew it would fail.
Here's the idea I had. Instead of attempting to fully legalize in 2012, simply hold a vote on a proposition that is very simple. "No person shall be jailed for more than 6 months, nor be subject to probation, parole, or state supervision for longer than 12 months for any non-violent marijuana offense with the exception of distribution to minors or cultivating where the grower doesn't have permission (public land, someone else's private land)."
This is about taking them down from the top down, instead of the bottom up. Does that make sense? And that's it! Do that, and prohibition is done for. This would be a sort of Jedi mind trick (for lack of a better term).
Think about it this way...This would get all the votes from last year who voted yes. Then it would also satisfy those who don't want legalization for self centered reasons. And finally, it would pull just enough support from the sway voters who voted no, but who think current laws are too strict!
And guess what? 6 months jail sentence is a misdemeanor. Once this takes effect, there would be no justification for spending all the money that's spent now to round up a bunch of low level offenses.
Trust me on this guys! I've thought about it, and I can't quit thinking about it.
But alas, I know, that probably no one who runs that show over there is going to listen to me...they have their agenda's and egos to feed....but, if in the off chance one of you has a connection, will you send my idea on?
