Penn State Scandal and the end of Joe Paterno

Anyone else see this? Pretty crazy stuff. Coach with the most wins ever in college football (Penn State) was just fired. The President of the University was fired too for helping cover up an assistant coach's crimes of sexually abusing children.

It looks like the story is about to get even uglier too. Sandusky (the assistant coach) may have been pimping kids to the highest bidder using his foundation for needy children as a cover. Sick fucking shit.

Penn State Scandal: Rumor Claims Sandusky “Pimped Out” Boys to Rich Donors
Just when you thought the Penn State child sex-abuse scandal couldn't possibly get any worse, we may have just scratched the surface. Joe Paterno being fired could be just the start of arguably the biggest downfall in the history of college athletics.

Pittsburgh radio personality Mark Madden, who penned a column for the Beaver County Times back in April of this year named "Sandusky a State secret," a column which foreshadowed the recent scandal which has absolutely gutted those of us in the Penn State family, was a guest on the Dennis & Callahan Morning Show on WEEI sports talk radio out of Boston on Thursday morning. During his appearance, Madden, who has been mostly right regarding this issue from the very start, dropped what can only be called a bombshell, an announcement which could mean far more than the end of Joe Paterno's career.

Madden stated that two "prominent columnists" are currently investigating a rumor that Jerry Sandusky's Second Mile Foundation, a non-profit organization aimed to serve underprivileged youths, was "pimping out young boys to rich (Penn State) donors." Madden went on to say that Jerry Sandusky was told by those running the show at Penn State football that Sandusky had to retire after allegations made in 1998 that the defensive coordinator was guilty of "improper conduct with an underage male." Sandusky, thought by some to be Joe Paterno's successor at the time, abruptly and somewhat shockingly retired from coaching in 1999.

It actually gets worse. Madden went on to say "When Sandusky quit, everybody knew; not just at Penn State. It was a very poorly kept secret around college football, in general. That is why he never coached in college football again and retired at the relatively young age of 55, young for a coach." Madden also called the Second Mile Foundation "the perfect cover" for Sandusky's scheme.

I want to be absolutely clear about a few things. These reports, as of the writing of this piece, are coming only from Mark Madden, and they are currently only rumors and speculation. With that said, Mark Madden has been mostly correct about a grand jury investigation which was sealed until very recently. I'm not suggesting that I 100 percent believe Madden to be correct. I'm certainly not ignoring a word he's saying regarding the Sandusky case at this point.

Late Wednesday evening after Joe Paterno was fired by Penn State, an "in the know" individual told me that this story was going to get uglier, and that there were, at the very least, "dozens of more victims." My absolute worst fear regarding the issue is what Mark Madden spoke on Thursday morning. It's been widely reported that the US Department of Education is currently investigating Penn State. Are they going to find that Jerry Sandusky was running a multimillion-dollar criminal organization, one which resulted in dozens, possibly hundreds (or even more), of youths being sexually abused? Will they find that higher-ups at Penn State, including now former football coach Joe Paterno, covered-up Sandusky's heinous crimes? All I know this morning is that, after the worst week of my Penn State life, I don't know if anything would shock me.

I knew most of the story but that part is news to me. If true, his depravity knew no bounds. Speaking of depravity, how about Joe Paterno? The abuser should be the focus but he was enabled. What you permit, you promote.

Should be quite a few heads rolling from this, including Paterno. When I first heard about this, I kinda felt sorry for Paterno, but the more I heard about this, and thought about it, Joe Paterno obviously put the Penn State football program and university above the welfare of not just the one kid he was told about, but all the other kids who got raped by that douchebag in subsequent years.

The guy who REALLY committed the biggest crime (obviously, besides the piece of shit rapist), in my opinion, is that assistant who actually witnessed the rape happening. His description of events..."I was in the locker room, and I heard a rhythmic slapping sound coming from the showers. I went to see what it was and I saw the child with his hands up against the wall, and Sandusky analy raping him." Dude didn't even tell Sandusky to stop, he just left the lockeroom.

Actually witnessing that event would be way more powerful and compelling than having it told to you. This guy didn't even go tell an authority figure from the football program at first, he went home and called his dad about it, and didn't tell Paterno until the next day.

This guy is a piece of shit.

I honestly hope it isn't true that Sandusky was pimping those kids out. That would turn an already horrible situation into something unfathomable. More head are going to have to roll, and I truly hope more people get indicted. The fact that Sandusky felt comfortable enough to rape children at his workplace should tell you everything you need to know about the culture there.

Wiggs, that is unbelievable. I don't know what to say... this is fucking heinous and insane. Seems every passing day I am reminded of how odious and unfathomable human beings worst behaviors can be.

Sandusky has a special kind of hell coming to him yet.......
Chester the Molester and once inside he'll be targeted for that. As for Joe...hopefully the days of people protecting others for that type of activity is done. What a way to go down and be remembered for.

i bet he is on suicide watch. if was i him, i would wanna be dead...
I wonder where Joe is at? Don't think that will happen but at the end of his life this is what he's created. In his head probably trying to justify his actions. Really disgusting stuff.

There was no willful misconduct on Paterno's part, he took the verbal report to his superiors who then attempted to rock the boat as little as possible as he focused on football operations. The man is a legend and he'll remain so to those that matter.

Not sure why I'm even the slightest bit surprised that people have already come to their own conclusion based on what they hear on News @ 11

who wouldn't report a crime like this to law enforcement?

you go to the police, not your boss.

the assistant fucked up by not reporting to police, then paterno perpetuated it by not going to police and finally the president of the university for not going to police either...

I don't pretend to know the whole story but, I do feel Paterno is being scapegoated to a degree. Paterno didn't see anything, Paterno didn't know anything. Paterno heard a rumor. McMartin, anyone? If anyone was supposed to go after Sandusky, it should've been the former QB (a strapping young man in the full flower of his strength) who, seeing a tired old man molesting a child, chose to walk away.

Agree with ya' Freezer. Penn St. really had no choice tho' , as a business, but to clean house.
Whether or not we agree, it had to be done.
Simply, for the university, to save as much face as possible.
How in hell does someone witness a child being raped, and not do EVERYTHING POSSIBLE, to stop it.
I don't care if it was a 330 lb. lineman. I'd grab whatever was around and beat the shit out of the guy! Or at least try!
NO FUCKING WAY, I run away and call my DADDY!
Positive vibes sent, to the victims, who were so wrongly treated.

According to reports I've heard, McQuery the assistant was trying to get on as an assistant at Penn State after he graduated, so he choose his career over the childs well being...

sickening... he will be fired tomorrow...
