northeast greenhouse 2015 grow

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Things are going well but I am kicking myself in the ass on one thing. I didn't cage my plants early enough and I really need to now! I tried to wrap WWM (welded wire mesh) around them tonight with some buddies but it did not go well. I got one plant done but it was real abusive on it because they are too big already. I should have had them up earlier.

The other day when I was foliar feeding them, I had two branches snap under the weight of the feed. I think this is because of two reasons:

1. the KC 33 is bushing out faster than the stalks can keep up with and 2. because the greenhouse has no electricity, so I can't run a fan to get a breeze on them and I also can't pull the cover to have a natural breeze because of the state I live in (although I'm thinking about it in my desperation)(also very rural). I'm definitely nervous about this getting worse as they bud. What do you guys think? Are they going to get stronger without a breeze, or am I going to have to completely rely on some kind of structure/netting holding them up? Am I asking for trouble?

As a side note, if you noticed the greenhouse now only has 8 in it. The other 6 are out at a guerrilla site. Those 6 are much stronger and I think this is because of the breeze.

Also, I think the GH plants are getting enough silica from the nutes and diatomaceous earth top dress, but I could be wrong. How can I tell when I have maxed out their silica intake?

Really nice DIY greenhouse. How do you keep the roof vent open or is it permanently open?

Those smaller grey fabric pots don't look like Smart brand. They look like the ones I buy from Ruth's Tree Farm.

the vents are rigid mounted I put them up after the early cold weather and I will put them down for the late cold/rain. otherwise temps stay pretty stable except for the few real hot days. also the vents have two foot overhangs for those pesky choppers.

yeah, those five gallons were cheapos. definitely not as nice as SP's .

Remesh bud! 6x6 squares instead of 2x4. Check my thread in here I just wrapped 55 girls and need a couple more sheets to finish. I Was late doing it too. Definitely two cage layers next year here like Mendo does.

I was using 6x6. I broke a bunch of stuff doing it... you?

I'm wondering about 6x6 netting hung from the rafters? much more flexible to get in to?

Big bamboo and hortitrellis is a lot more maneuverable in tight spaces than remesh although not quite as supportive, it works well.

Update:7-22-15
I put the boots to them over the past few days with nutes, silica for the heat and to stiffen them up, molasses for the bennys and epsom salt for a Mg deficiency.(next year more dolomite in the mix)

They are really starting to use up water now. I was surprised how little water they used until now. I think it is the lack of wind and the diffused light that helps evaporation rates

They literally grew 6" in the past few days, 2 of them are only inches from the roof. I think I will start training them into the peak and worst case raise the GH a few feet.

Hard to walk around inside now. Its like a jungle...

Quick update: (busy time of year!) Things went well this year despite a late battle with botrytis. My counts are around 1 3/4p's per plant of healthy buds and prob another 1/2p per of mold loss or bottom buds that went into deep freezers for fresh frozen (properly filtered) extract. All of the girls really surprised me with there production in only 65gal sp's.

Things I learned this year:
don't underestimate mold
MORE FANS! (for mold and plants strength)
fuck horti-net, cages are the way to go
get cages up before plants are too big
this kind of a harvest is a LOT of labor it took about 650 man hours (including 6 large outdoor plants)

Were the ruths pots worth it? Will they last a few cycles?

They were worth it to me as they only lived in them for about a month. Definitely a night and day quality difference on the smart pots.

I think root exposure to UV light may be an issue as the ruths are a lot thinner. ( I wrapped mine in landscape fabric for good measure)
