My Modest Micro Cab - 2sqftx150w HPS

Wow, thats awesome to see sativas in a micro grow! Looks great. How are you powering the computer fans if you dont mind me asking?

Originally I had an old PSU in there, which gave me 12v, 7v and 5v. All my fans start and run on 5v with no issues. But I ditched the PSU in favor of a 7v brick for the cooltube fan, a 5v brick for the two circulation fans, and I'm now using a nice 4 amp, 12v brick I found at Goodwill for $1.25 for the exhaust fan (which draws more amps than all the other fans combined).

The cooltube fan starts and stops with the light, which is why it needed its own power brick plugged into the timer. The exhaust and circulation fans are always on now. I might ditch the 5v brick and run all three at 12v. I'll try to get a better pic of my utility compartment. It could use some tidying up.

I've thought about installing a pc fan controller. There are a few that can control multiple fans with higher amperage loads. And it would be nice to turn down the exhaust fan during the day. I have a lot of plans but no funds to carry them out unfortunately.

They're not white with trichomes like indica bud porn, but this still makes me drool.

Ugh, I lost a huge, detailed post when Tor decided to crash. No way am I typing all that again.

With this post my grow is now current! Here's day 76 of 12/12, day 64 of flower.

picture.php

I lowered the light another link after taking that pic. The area directly underneath the bulb is a sea of bud.

Shot of the undergrowth and small buds that will never get the light they need. I guess I'll harvest a few of those to sample, and use that as an excuse to prune some of the spindly branches.

I'm seeing a bit of purple in some areas.

Yum! :canabis:

I'll go back and add dates/days flower to earlier posts where possible. And try to get a few more pics showing areas of my cab that I haven't mentioned yet.

Thanks everyone for looking!

startin' to look pretty damned frosty in there bro, very nice!

btw, in the future you should trim a lot of that lower growth so the plants
can spend it's resources on the upper buds. leave the fan leaves, just trim
all those lower bud sites, about 2 weeks into flower should do ya. i'm no pro
though so maybe some others will chime in and point out the error of my ways.
lol, i think i'm right though!

if you see a couple posts above we touched on this. :joint:

So is it a good idea to trim some of it this late, maybe removing a small amount of vegetation at a time and giving the plants a few days to recover? I really want to sample some too. I was going to pick off a few popcorn buds and let them dry for several days in the utility compartment.

And thanks for the advice, I'm learning from my mistakes and future grows should only improve! I haven't decided yet if I want to reveg these or just order quality seeds. If it turns out to be an amazing smoke, I'll probably reveg and see how it goes with better plant management.

Update!

I'm on my second grow in this box, six weeks into flower.

Once again I vegged too long. But I'm now down to one plant and there's lots of room for airflow.

Also, I'm growing an indica-dominant strain, origins unknown. I was overconfident the first time around trying to grow pure sativas in a cab, and while the bud I harvested was pretty awesome, it was definitely airy, and overcrowded was an understatement.

I've got more airflow thanks to an 8x8 darkroom vent, and my cab is no longer restricted in a closet. Much larger containers for soil as well, and I'm 100% organic soil this time, using teas for nutrients and beneficials.

I'm very hopeful this time around! I still have some issues with the cab setup to address, but I think it's basically a good setup.

Foescan, it looks like you're pulling some nice buddage from that cabinet, nice job!

How do you like that darkroom louver? Is the increased airflow noticable; has it dropped your temps?

Before I installed the vent, my fan would suck the doors shut, and I could hear it work much harder. Now there's only the slightest vacuum, and the fan doesn't change its pitch. So the darkroom vent was a great investment, easy to install and no messing around with PVC elbows and hole saws, I wish I had purchased one from the get go. If you're on the fence, definitely get one! It dropped my temps above the light (in the utility compartment) by about two degrees, but I didn't notice any difference in the main compartment. But then again I only measure below the canopy. I can have leaves within an inch of the cooltube before they start to curl from heat.

I've attached a pic of the utility compartment, which is mostly empty. That axial fan has no issues pulling air through the filter. I still want to invest in something better suited for this application.

No weights for the first harvest, but lots of pics I'll eventually get to. Unfortunately smoking too much of that bud makes me extremely jittery. My heart will race and I swear it has weird effects like making muscles all over my body tighten. But in moderation, it's great!

Ok, it seems I have already exceeded my album/gallery storage, so all I can do is attach pics to each post. Let's see if I can get that attached pic to show up...Here's a shot from a few weeks back, before I went down to just one plant.

Nice going foe, those buds look awesome! They look much bigger and denser than your first crop. Can't wait to see how tihs one turns out!

Huge difference between the first run and second! I've got buds curing, will post weights when dry.

I'm doing one more bagseed run and then getting good genetics. With as much time as I have invested it doesn't make sense not to.

I'll get pics up soon, along with some more cab improvements.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

The plant that I culled early on came in at 34g dry, heavily seeded. The second plant that finished netted 119g dry, although it was lightly seeded as well. Most of the upper buds only have a few seeds each fortunately.

It's been curing for five weeks now, and just gets better every week. I've smoked out all my friends and even seasoned smokers were blown away by the taste and effect. So despite some setbacks this grow has proven to be a thorough success!

I still have lots of upgrades planned for the cab, which I will post here eventually. I'll start a grow journal for future grows and keep this more setup-related. After my current (third) grow is finished I'll be switching to a 250w ballast and use CMH for veg and HPS for flower. I think my setup can handle the additional heat.
