Are you using an electric vacuum pump in a chamber with a heat gun or what's your setup?
keep purging ... IMO 125 is too high, I stay between 95-110. Slow and low. How are you purging ... straight hard vac, or are you vacing and than letting sit while under vac? Spark are due to gas ... perhaps brother gray wolf will tell us different, but this is my thoughts. there's a lot of info on purging over at tokecity.com ... ck it out. What type of pump are you using?
Gray- How are you using a hot plate in your chamber? Is it battery powered?
I am having trouble with oils 'sparking' when held to the flame. This is even after 5+ hours of vac purging thinly (a few mm thick max). temps are between 115-125.
Using a metal poker and a lighter, taking a small dab on the end of the poker and holding a flame next to it. Small sparks pop off the oil.
Plant material is very dry. Butane is a Euro brand. Butane is run through a filter drier.
I am thinking that possible moisture from the tube freezing over is remaining in the oil. Really struggling on preventing this as some strains spark less or not at all after following the same Vac procedure.
Tuesday in class, we produced a light yellow clear amber using year old mixed trim from a trim pro.
We packed it as was, without futher sizing, and ran three flood cycles, with the recovery pot on the Mk III at 85F.
We washed it out of the recovery pot with a minimal amount of 190 proof ethanol, before filtering and evaporating away the alcohol in a thin film using 115F and -29.9F.
Not much smell or floral flavor, but the extract smelled exactly like the starting material and produced a light yellow shatter.
Hi GW, I just PM'd you at another forum but thought I'd do so here as well.
I just made Absolute a couple of days ago using this exact method you posted and what I got back is somewhat of a taffy consistency instead of a hard shatter and also notice some of it is starting to turn opaque. Should I continue to vac-purge a little longer? How long do you usually vac-purge your Absolute or QWET?
Thanks in Advance!
It sounds like it is waxing up on you, though I've never had an Absolute do that.
me neither.....
Is it an Absolute or oleoresin and how thick is your puddle?
It is an Absolute... I poured 190 proof Everclear in a small jar and then added my BHO, then placed into the freezer for over 24 hours before filtering it onto a warm pyrex dish. I had a single puddle that weighted about 7 grams or so. I use a 9" bel-art desi as my chamber. Should I have made smaller 'puddles'? If so how small are we talking?
I cold boil off an Absolute or QWET in thin films under vacuum at 115F. Once the visable alcohol is gone and random sized alcohol bubbles stop being produced, so only the fizzy equally sized CO2 bubbles remain, I remove the oil from the chamber and allow it to harden.
This is what I did as well although mine never hardened...just taffy consistency. how long does it take to harden usually? And does it harden by just leaving it out in room temps without it being covered by anything?
I start with about 1/4" to 3/16" liquid in a 6" Petri dish, and it takes me about one or two hours to cold boil and fully purge a sample, which ends up 1/6"to 1/8" thick and of shatter consistency.
..............I placed mine into a tuperware container before allowing it to dry completely. could this be the reason it is waxing?
I saved two of them for over a year before scraping, as I used them as show and tell for students to drag their fingers across. They still looked like stained glass at that point, and tasted hashy, with most of the floral flavor was gone.
so then, should I try and warm it back up to 115* F to get it in a viscious state and place it back under vac until it solidifies?
