Killer!
I was a dirt farmer till 2002 and switched to dwc and have been working at it ever since, it is a different animal the roots are bathing in the nutrient 24.7 and thus throw out all ideas of high concentrations of nutes whereas roots have to go searching for the nutrients in the soil. I have dialed in my last several strains at 400 - 500 ppm's on a hanna and usually anything over 5oo will show tip burn, so nice and easy on the nutes is key. I like to keep a precise temp around 75-77 in the room at all times and have had pretty solid results without a chiller, you get your best dissolved oxygen at around 69 and during winter grows when my water temp was closer to 70 my gear looks better and more vigorous, but anything over 75 in the buckets starts to slow down growth. Another critical part of dwc is the transition from clonel/seed to the bucket if you are using a rockwool medium you have to be careful of the water level being to high and wicking up into the rockwool but if you can get a nice vigourous mass of roots down into the bucket you are off to the races and you really have to mess up something bad to blow the grow. I have recently been shooting for a ph range of 5.7-6.0 and letting it drift through that range before adjusting ph back down every few days, with colorado water you almost always will see a drift up with your resoivoir. I rocked gh's one part flora nova grow and bloom for years with great results but tired of the mixing of all the organic setiment in the containers and have heard a time or two that flora nova is not 0ptimum for dwc cuz of solubility and the res always looks like it has crap floating around in it, i recently swithed to a two part and the first crop with it looks really on the money and a much cleaner rez in the process. there are alot of little nuances i have learned over the years that help, lowes buckets are the bomb at 2.50 a piece and the bucket lids seem to snap and fit like a glove and they are light proof, as opposed to home depot bucket needing foil tape to block the light. Good consistent res changes are important on a regular basis, the plants use up the water and nute mix and the nutrient solution basically gets spent or used up and the ionic balance gets thrown off and you will usually start to see a weird ph swing or it won't hold like you are used to seeing this is usually a sign for a res change, the best thing you can do is change out once a week depending how big your res is, there are a couple of different set ups you can do i would be glad to walk you through them they all work well usually matter of preference. I use black hose for quarter inch recirculating lines and clear hose for air stones. use 6 inch hydrofarm airstones at 2.50 a pop. I have found some awesome air pumps that put out loads of air and are really quiet they are made by hydrofarm and put out 113 litres of air per minute, you want a nice churning action in the bucket from the air to keep the nutes going in hydro your dissolved oxygen comes from surface tention when the bubbles come to the surface that is where the dissolved oxygen comes from anyway I have rocked 8- 12 buckets on one of these pumps with good results, I learned that the smaller pumps made by hydrofarm are only 15 to 20 dollars cheaper but a crapload more noisy, so much more noisy i have a whole box of them i had to retire. the efficiency and growth rate will blow away dirt grows but some still argue both sides on this, but a larger yielding strain veged for three weeks from loading clone in bucket top can go 8- 10 ounces. Just blew all this out off the top of my head if you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask.

Hey everyone thank you SO much for the nice words. Also thanks to everyone who has reached out to me with the dwc ordeal. Looks like it's going to be a little bit before I can get it going but I'm probably going to try curbsides buckets. Big ups for those man.

Some of the plants in the pics on the last page have some nitrogen claw.. I was definitely aware of it because this run I pushed my nutrients hard, it was an experimental round.

I decided to try out regular plastic pots in place of my usual smart pots.. Normally I veg in my final container (3-7 gallon smarties) forever and never worry about getting rootbound. Well it wasn't three weeks in the plastic pots before they began to lighten in color a tad. I decided to start my nutrient schedule for week 1 with the week 3 strength and went from there.

The reason I'm telling you all this is because my plants have never been fatter. I'm gonna bang a massive yield this round even without my normal screens. So turns out more nutrients = better yield for me.

That said, there is something about the Og that doesn't look dialed. Yes it is MASSIVE and looks super dank but when I nail the OG I know it and this round wasn't it.

I think going forward I'm going up the nutrient levels from normal but not to the point I did this round.

If you can believe it.. OG Kush day 51

Bigger update coming but here's the Diesel/headband/underdawg. She LOVED the Nutrient push and each plant has at least ten coke can size colas. She runs to about 77 days and I know she's just getting started stacking.

They look good from here Self, did you use silica? Been reading along cc's thread and have also used a silica based product in the past. The yields were better but somehow I thought it inhibited the trich production but I did use it at the start of flower like cc said it's better in the last weeks after all the essential oils are already produced. Gotta say that OD is a special plant we need her down under along with some of those crazy kushes you guys are blessed to have on hand. Peace kit-

Thanks for the kind words tonatiuh.. This round I went back to about half strength at day 49. I water/feed every three days so I think I'll go 1/4 strength next watering and then cut to zero.

CC chime in if you catch this but I think he says the reason for this is that when plants are cut to zero food they freak out and lock in some nutrients.. The idea behind the step down is that it will let the plants get used to less and less food gradually.

cheers!

hmmmm, may have to give that a try SELF, I have always cut nutes 100% during flush... you think your results are turning out better by just cutting back? Will be following along for sure!
