Been meaning to post this up since I started the seeds 3 weeks ago, but life got busy.
Anyway, this is my first grow thread here on icmag. I've had my medical card for a year now and had been growing from co-op clones until spider mites (and my lack of proactive mite combat) destroyed my garden in may. Cleaned everything as best as I could, but did not fog, so there is a chance they will return. Most annoying part of it was that it happened just as I was ready flip my new 300 watt vertical cmh set-up into flower.
I was planning to use bagseed to start back up with, but the co-op I go to started carrying the mother chucker's line and I figured why not do some of both. I ended up getting Jack Herer OG. Its a fairly deep hybrid considering Jack is a 3 way cross and the OG used is mother chucker's twitter OG which is OG Bubba x (OG Bubba x Trainwreck). I am very interested to see what kind of phenos I will get. For the bagseed, I have 1 Candy Goo, 1 Super Bubba, and a bunch of seeds from some sour d that looked nothing like sour d. Looked more like some OG. I got about 20 seeds from a gram nug and it was the only bud in the eighth that had seeds. Almost seemed like the bud was deliberately pollinated.
Seeds were soaked in shot glasses of RO water with Botanicare Seaplex @ 10ml/gal and Superthrive @ 1ml/gal for 12 hours
Then I moved them to damp paper towels in baggies.
Then I made the biggest mistake ever and used Miracle Grow brand perlite. It was cheaper than the regular stuff, but it has some fertilizer added. It has an NPK of .04 .01 .06 so I figured it was safe. Not so much.
A few seedlings got burnt a little and others had some distorted margins. Then when they needed light feeding I was noticing precipitates when adding 1ml/gal GH Flora Micro and Bloom. After about a week and a half I decided to buy new perlite and transplant.
About a week ago, I transplanted the seedlings to mini hempy buckets in 12 oz cups. The bottom layer is lava rock with a 50/50 mixture of perlite and vermiculite on top (vermiculite was cheaper than perlite). Now the seedlings are finally starting to take off, but are still showing some deficiencies.
Ive have had a hard time finding specific Nutrient requirements for young cannabis plants. Most people just say "use 1/4 strength". Yesterday I found the following profile:
N = 70 ppm
P = 50 ppm
K=120 ppm
Ca = 150 ppm
Mg = 40 ppm
S= 50 ppm
This was talking about tomatoes on GardenWeb, but was posted by the handle "lucas_formulas" and signed as lucas. Whether its him or not and whether or not he's really talking about tomatoes I don't know, but tomatoes do like a bit higher EC than cannabis so I was afraid to use that recipe.
The day before Yesterday I fed the babies 3.5ml micro and 7 ml bloom/gal. This gives the following profile:
N:56
P:46
K:80
Ca:57
Mg:32
S:21
This mix gave an EC of ~.8. All but 1 seedling looks like it wants more, so I may try to get closer to the first profile with some pk 13/14 and epsom salts subbed for half the bloom.
Pictures coming soon. Im new to camera raw, but I hope to figure it out this afternoon.
