Mob Boss SOG

Hi all,

I grew out 12 F1 mob boss seeds, labeled them 1 through 12. There is a thread here.

I kept one, Mob Boss #4, and plan on trying 30 plant SOG with it (30 6" pots with hydroton in a 3'x3' tray). I plan on using lucas formula (8ml per gallon micro, 16ml per gallon flower), plus I add 1ml per gallon of CalMag and 1ml per gallon of Flourilicious Plus.

Here is a pic of #4 it at 7 weeks flower. It starts frosting up at 4 weeks...

Unfortunately another plant hermed and #4 got seeded a little, but here is a pic of the bud:

I had two cuts from her and have been vegging them for the past 6 weeks or so under a 600w HPS (I wasn't using my flower tent) after keeping them in a holding pattern in 6" pots under a 250w mh (my mom tent). One is trained a little and was a smaller cut, while the other has been topped a few times and was larger starting. Here is the trained one:

Here is the topped one:

Here is a close up and the stalk of the one of the right:

I have three tents. Here is my mom tent. It's 30"x30" and has a 6" carbon filer hooked to a 250w MH 6" cooltube.

The exhaust is also the exhaust for the lights in the flower tent, which is 8"x4" and has a 5'x6" cooltube with 2x 600w hps lamps hooked to the exhaust fan. There is also a filter and fan for the flower tent itself. I hung box fans from both sides of the tent and used a pvc piece to make clearance for circulation for them. I have 2x 3'x3' ebb and flow trays with 2x 150 quart coolers for res. I use eco 396 pumps (I haven't hooked the pump up to this side yet) for ebb and flow. I also use 6" pots with hydroton and flood for five minutes one hour before lights on then every four hours until lights off, and once during lights off for 5x a day, e.g. if lights are 7pm to 7am I would flood at 6pm, 10pm, 2am, 6am, and 12 noon.

I also have a 24"x24" clone tent with a 30 site EZcloner, a 98w T5 fixture, and a a 4" filter leading to a 4" exhaust fan. It connect to the lights and flower tent exhausts and it goes out in one. Here is the cloner with no clones...

Here is it with clones and shot with the filter:

I use bungee cords to hang the lights, the zip ties were in case I want to lower the light but i don't need to. I might even raise the light more...

I took the cuts today so in two weeks I'll put them in the pots. I reuse the rocks. I have a 3" net pot to put over shop vac hose to suck out dead dry root matter from the rocks.

Nice setup...real clean and organized. I struggle daily and still cant keep my shit that clean. But my girl does a good job, once a week she gives it a good overhaul...

I had a small power issue a couple of days after the cuts and for some reason had the pump on a timer to use a switch and it didn't turn on after the power came back on. The clones were all flat when I got back to them but they were able to stand back up except for five that I move to the front and replaced. That was two weeks ago and those five all have nice roots (in the front):

Out of the rest about 10 maybe have roots. Most are looking kind of rough now, going on 18 days with no nutes or anything. I'm transplanting the ones that made it to pots now.

I had a couple of issue cloning this time and the last. I've never had these problems with aero-cloning it is kind of pissing me off. I had no problem getting nice roots off Mob Boss my last two passes so I know it isn't the strain. I have enough room in my first tray for the Mob Boss that made it though. I actually have two Mob Boss flowering in the tray now they are at three weeks:

I plan on doing another round to fill the second tray, the five I replaced all rooted just as expected so I am optimistic. If the next round doesn't turn out well I am just going to grow one or two of the cuts out as new moms and flower the old moms where the tray is.

My current plan is actually to get a couple small new moms to grow out, then another tray, and finally put them outside in the ground. I'll be growing mob boss outdoors this year anyway but I am hoping to let my moms get monster before I put them out there :plant grow:

Wanted to post an update. I got 12 clones out of the batch and put them in the the first tray. It fills the tray up with 36 6" pots so that's nice. All but 1 of those are doing really good, the other is kind of lagging, but they are all doing much better than the two cuts I took before that are between 5-6 weeks. Here are a couple of pics at two weeks plus a couple of days flowering:

Here is a close up of the other flowering cone, it's between weeks five and six:

Here is a comparison of one of the two weeks against the above one, above is kind of small:

The ones I just flowered have done much better and look much more like their mom, kinds of stretchy with nugs at the nodes:

I took another batch of 30 clones. It's been 9 days and things are looking much better this time. 28/30 have little roots and 12 of those have a nice cluster already. I plan to put them in the other tray in 6" pots in another week or so.

Clones are pretty much ready to go. Going to put them in 6" pots in the next couple of days. All 30 have roots, I'll probably let them grow their roots another day or two before putting them in tray, especially the one that only has a couple little shoots (hard to see any roots on it in the pic):

theyre itching to get out of the cloner and get some real nutes.

Hey ya Solo, loved tha last crop pics you had, those were from seed, ya? Got a couple observations for ya...... tha clones that are pretty far into flowering were triggered pretty early, gitting no legs on 'em and still only producing one to three blades per node. This in my experience, results in minimal yields; let these next crops mature a bit, I think you'll be pleased.

Thanks for the post and the advice. That makes sense about the leaves, less surface area.

The moms are kind of weird. I took the original cuts at fours weeks flowering, when they were reducing their blades per leaf and starting to focus on buds. They reverted back to veg after a few weeks and grew out pretty crazy, lots of branching at the nug spots and big single bladed fan leaves, gaining two blades per node until they got back to seven. Some of the cuts were from the part of the plant with fewer blades on the fan leaves.

I plan on replacing the moms and taking cuts from while they are in full veg so the fan leaves and cuts on the new moms are more consistent.

All 30 cuts rooted, I put them right into 6" pots with hydroton and into the tray.

Here are the other ones at 21 days:

And a close up:

They should start frosting up by the end of the next week.

Update. The 30 Mob Boss at 7 days. The ones with 5+ leaves are taking off faster than the others, like in the other tray:

The other tray and some close ups:

I took some more clones, including some new moms. My plan is to take 18 clones every 18 days, with ~14 days in the cloner. 72 Plants total, 72 days to mature. The new clones and moms have at least 5 leaf blades, I am going to replace the smaller/weaker flowering plants from both trays with the new ones to make room for them.

I'm also putting my 2 mob boss moms outside in the ground in a few weeks and won't be taking anymore cuttings from them. I plan to take another round of 18 cuts from my current moms, put them outside, and replace them with the new ones then see where I stand from there. Might grow the new moms out an extra week or two to ensure I get enough cuts.

thanks for the post. I still have a lot of work to do to dial it in but I'm working on it. I've only got a few years of hands on experience, and have done SOG in the past before my last seed and soil grow, but I'm still always just trying to keep up...

Steele's post really helped and I'm hoping and really believe that my new mom cuts taken in full veg stead of 4 weeks flower will make a difference in the consistency of the cuts. You can really tell the difference in growth rate between cuts with different numbers of blades on their fan leaves in my current trays, and the only reason the cuts have single bladed fan leaves is because the moms were taken during mid flower. I had moms before that were cuts from a vegging plant and never had inconsistent cuts, they always had nice fan leaves and grew the same. I'm actually pretty excited to get these new ones grown out for that reason.

Anyway... My new moms are popping roots, here are pics of the clones in the cloner, they are all big clones, all but 1 has at least five fan leaves, I'm hoping it will help them grow a bit faster and yield better.

The new mom clone. It has a little yellow from no nutes in the cloner but I'll clean it up when I transplant, and the new root nubs

Here is a close up of the small mob boss that I've been flowering for about 8 weeks now from up thread, and it's progression. it's almost done. It will be small but it smells delicious and is very resinous... It really is some of the best shit around, the original seed mom was the fire and even though it's small it's hairy so I'm really really looking forward to the higher yielding new cuts to come...

My task now is to get my new moms up to speed for the better cuts. I have two strain, mob boss and a BB blue cheese pheno that I really like. I have room for five moms and while they are growing out I'm probably going to take cuts from whatever plants I can until they get enough growth to get an entire batch from one type or the other. I may not put all four outside right now, may hold on to one so I can ensure enough cuts next few rounds, but I haven't decided yet.

Wanted to post an update. I rotated the plants around into columns instead of rows so they are easier to work with. Here are some pics of the plants that are about 6 weeks:

Here is the other tray, there are 29 mob boss in it atm + 7 smaller/younger ones that aren't mob boss, there are some nice ones in the batch:

I also chopped one of the two small mob boss cuts I had and trimmed it up. I wanted to let the other one grow another week or so and see how it turns out. It will be dry and ready to smoke in a couple of days I'll post some pics when the buds are dry:

Taking another round of 15 cuts tomorrow and getting the new moms under the light. I'm going to focus on mostly growing mob boss from now on, probably 3/4 of my moms mob boss instead of the current 2/4. After a couple of more rounds it will be more even 18 cuts every 18 days.

Solo, lovely selection. I really dig tha uber trich coverage; and tha plant itself looks like a ChemD on roids, lol. Got more info on some aromas?

Keep it up brada,

Thanks for the post, Steele.

The smell most resembles grape candy or grape soda. It is very sativa, streches, has huge calyxes, lots of trichs, and it's very light/white. It should be dry and ready for smoke tonight :) I can post a pic of the broken up nug. I plan on chopping the other small one this weekend and then I have about 4 weeks until more Mob Boss are ready for chopping.

My new moms are also under the MH and look really good. They all have full, five+ bladed fan leaves which should help them grow faster as well as producing more consistent cuts so I can dial it in to a level worthy of the Mob Boss.

The two moms from the original post went outside today and will be out there getting monster for the next seven months or so. They've been topped multiple times and one has been trained. They are about four months old, the bigger one is about three feet tall now and the trained one is about two feet tall. Here is what they looked like in February:

And the stalk in February:

I probably won't be able to get many if any pics of the plants outside, and if I do it probably won't be until summer and fall. I'll definitely post pics of the finished product though (assuming they survive). They are going out with about 30-40 other Mob Boss cuts that have been growing the past few months under fluorescent in preparation for now.
