I have received ssi, for my son. I had no choice in order to get the therapy he needed. I don't recive cash though. I make to much money, which is just fine by me. I support my family, not the government.

You can't completely dismiss personal responsibility from every equation. If obesity is a disease why did it just start happening in the past couple decades? Unless if by disease you mean inability to control your own actions. Well, rapists have this same problem should we let them off? Some people are legitimately addicted to stealing, should we give them a pass? Sometimes I have unbelievable cravings to stay home from work, should we have a program that compensates me if I succumb to that urge?

I have seen family die from DISEASES like cancer and multiple sclerosis. To me, writing off a person's inability to not turn into every McDonalds or lack of effort at fitness as "disease" is a slap in the face of those that legitimately suffer and need help.

I could give a shit what people do with their bodies but when money from my check goes to fund their unhealthiness there needs to be a line drawn. This is why we can't get anything settled in America anymore, people are concreted into their views and can't have give and take and compromise.

I just came off my post and said "ok, I'll bite on universal health, but how do we prevent abuse and make the program sustainable?", and the first response is "no, everybody is a victim and there can be no exceptions". Really?

I wad more than willing to pay for his therapy, the state won't allow it. They filled his ssi, the choice was get ssi and help for my son. Or let him go without. This was therapy through the school district, which my tax dollars pay for, not a welfare program.The government has a monopoly on such services. My wife is in school to be a child psychologist, we plan to create a non profit center to help autistic children.

Who am I supposed to Thank, I pay taxes. I guess I should thank myself.I am very grateful to the therapist who worked with my son. Me and my wife worked with my son on the therapy also.

The problem is that a government bureaucrat gets to decide who's life has value. Their is no sanctity of life with single payer healthcare, it's all about what's best for the masses.

Packerfan is a good point- Even most conservatives would agree to a system that helped the people that need it most. If the progressive crowd would agree that there is rampant fraud and abuse in these systems and work together with us to weed it out and improve resources for actually needy people we could really build a beautiful system.

A single mother that lost her husband deserves help. A single mother that has 3 kids with 3 dads who aren't in the picture deserves a wake up call. A person with MS deserves free health because they can't work. An obese person deserves a motivational speech and a lot of hard work. You see?
