I went thru this shit in high school, the nerds, the hippies on one side, mostly wanting to not be messed with, and the sports guys, the jocks, who thought it was funny to act like assholes, treat people like shit, and mess endlessly with the ones who only wanted to not be messed with, ‘cause hey, bro points!
Those guys are why we’re in the state we’re in. Those guys who just have to be jerks, can’t stop admiring jerks, grow up to meet others like themselves, and are able to reach powerful, high-paid positions, performing duties and tasks we would NEVER have assigned/promoted/elected them to handle.
The core insanity of our species: we *insist* on putting assholes in charge of important things that, in our rights minds, we know assholes shouldn’t be in charge of. And then we have to deal with that same fucking high-school bullshit, every time, at every ‘opportunity’, and we let ourselves get talked back into it AGAIN, or we have a war.

As far as I’m concerned, kowtowing to the strong (who are easily purchased by the rich) is an evolutionary dead-end: it seems to always lead to slavery and revolution.
Ironic to consider than Marx’ end-game for capitalism would come when late-stage capitalism closes its fist and in doing so sparks the mass of the people to realize it’s them or us.
There is an effort under way in the US and, I believe, in Britain as well, that seeks to reduce the franchise - the right to vote - to the ruling class itself and its vassals (maybe its vassals), to remove ALL taxes from the ruling class, to eliminate every vestige of the 20th century in terms of labeling, purity standards, worker’s rights (beyond a worker’s right to be paid his wage), care for the aged, support for science and education, health-care assistance.... everything.
In the US, the method chosen is a new constitution, removing the rights of everyone but the wealthy, and only subject to change by them. I’m not keened up on British politics sufficiently to hazard a guess about what’s under the sheets there.
I’ll just say that one can look at the Chilean “Constitution of Liberty” as a model for what’s planned here.
Read James Buchanan’s “Limits of Liberty”, while repeating to yourself what George Carlin said: “it’s a big club, but you ain’t in it!”
Read Plato’s “Republic” paying special attention to the powers of the “philosopher-kings” - that is, to the power they exercise. Now imagine the worst boss you’ve ever had with *that* kind of power....
