Bah, Hawking would disagree with you there, as would every quantum mechanic in the world.
Funny you should mention Hawking. Actually "God doesn't play dice with the universe." was quoted from Albert Einstein in the famous Einstein-Bohr debate regarding the assumptions of quantum mechanics. Bohr responded back, “Don’t tell God what to do.”

lol yeah I know, Hawking's quote "it seems god does play dice with the universe" was a direct response to this, which he closed either A brief history of time or Blackholes and baby universes with (I can't remember which).

...the copyright to any work automatically belongs to its creator(s), which is fundamentally wrong.

hello,

actually, in a way, yes.

what we know as 'copyright' is a service that charges you a one time fee to make a legal record of when you created the work you hace created.

So you submit a series of forms you get from them, which essentially is your perfonal nfo of course and information regarding date and place of creation of material, co-workers if any, what kind of work is being submited to be copyrighted? a book? is it scientific? humanistic? is it music? etc... you get the idea.

You make this legal record for a number of reasons; lets say you are a musician, and someone comes and copies your song, a dick move, right? but you had copyrighted it before anyone could have copied it, so you sue this thief, and you'll win as you can prove when and where you created the song through your legal record.

but even without this legal record, you can prove with other ways that a given work is yours. not always though.

but say listening to the radio or watching the tv without recording it good? No one gets paid anymore because you listened/watched, not unless you have a device fitted so that you show up in the ratings count.

actually, radio stations need to pay royalties to publishing rights holders for each time they play a song.

also, cable companies need to to do the same.

hence why you pay for cable.

and hence why radio depends on advertisements and playola (which is illegal btw, the playola that is).
