You also said above:

"I did a side by side run of 4' tall jackpots, 2g smartpots vs 4g plastic pots , the 15 in smaller pots yielded a total of 690 grams, or savg 1.61 oz each. The 6 that we transplanted into fresh ffof at the flip into hard 4g pots yielded 708 gr, or an avg of 4.14 oz ea."

So 6 plants produced more than 15 plants due to the different size/type of container alone..?! Were there any other variables? When was each transplanted into their respective container sizes, and when was the transplant done? Did the 4g pot plants (hehe) actually have time to grow into their bigger homes or what do you think caused the big difference? That's actually a huge difference on any level..

Fuck i just don't know how you do it and keep your sanity. Rock on!

Hey bro, I always transplant at the flip, as my veg room won't hold plants in big pots. So the plants in 2g smartpots were in month old (worn out) FFOF.

The 6 were transplanted from 2g smartpots into 4g plastic pots at the flip, so they had 2 gallons of new FFOF and twice the room to grow out. The plants were all equal in size and stature right up until the chop.

I don't know how much of it was the extra food in the fresh soil, and how much was the bigger root space, but either way I decided bigger was better.

I've had time to empty the ~92 5g smartpots from the last run, and noticed that most of the rootball did not take up the whole pot on about half the plants. Since they have no additional veg time to fill in that space I'm guessing is the reason. But The yields I'm seeing now are much better per plant than I saw before I was doing the 5g smartpots, so I'm gonna stick with those for a while. Good times! :)

Oh and my wife thinks I'm nuts and that the grow is more important than she is. I may not be entirely sane! lol But I love a challenge, and I'm pretty sure if I can get up around 2# a light in this show I'll be pretty stoked. Wouldn't hurt to have two of these, but I'm at least looking at another spot for moms and clones as my veg room is too small to hold the hundreds of plants I usually have in there. Mostly spares, but some plants I veg for almost 2 months to get them huge. I'm gonna upgrade the main veg room to 4KW in MH when I get AC, and convert my mom room into a place for 4" pots with fresh clones under t-5's. Then after a couple weeks they can go into the big bright veg room and 2g smartpots. 2 stage veg! hehehe

Lazyman,

Awesome grow!! I just read through and caught up. Thanks for sharing so much priceless info.
I'm wondering if you have any thoughts on light placement. Do you kind of have the bulb a little higher than the canopy or do you try to have the top end (actually the bottom of the bulb) pretty much level with the top of the plant. Sounds confusing, but maybe you know what I mean... I'm using a bare bulb for the first time and trying to hone it in, alas, without a light meter.

Mostly though, big up and alot of respect to you... I tried but can't think of a new "your name is Lazyman but you're not lazy" joke. hehe!

Yep bulbs are all about as high as i can get them, and the room is still packed with only 92 plants. :)

Harvest weight was 14.6#, will pist breakdown soon. 6 of that was from 20 purple aks! Be back tomorrow...

Ok gang, doing this from my phone so dont mlbeat me up for my spelling.

Harvest weights and pics, in order of yield per foot of vertical plant height. 7 strains total:

In last place ( 4th in actual yield) is Purple Gorilla, 388.6 grams of whole buds, 28.5 grams of popcorn, total 13.4 oz out of 7 4' tall plants. Works out to .513 oz per foot of plant height, the lowest of the group. The smoke is fine, delayed high and rather mild (as predicted by RedSpaghetti) though tasty and floral, its being axed from the garden. Truly a great plant, but not the potency that i require.

6th place goes to Purple Mr. nice. It was 5th in overall yield, with 932.3 grams of whole buds and 55 grams of popcorn, total 32 oz out of 18 3' tall plants. It vegges very slow, is a light feeder and makes great smoke, but i get few requests for purples and their yields are notorious for reducing yields. At .633 oz per foot, its only a hair better than Grape Stomper , here is the dark purple nugs of PMN

In fifth place is Grape Stomper, and third place in overall yield. A finicky and unusual hybrid, gs grows big foxtails in my room and is a nightmare to hand trim, it would do better in a cooler SOG. 646 grams of whole buds, 68.5 of popcorn out of 9 4' tall plants, avg 2 oz per plant. The smoke is fantastic and gives me the munchies in an amazing way. Not good enough compared to some other strains on deck. here are some gs nugs:

5echnically 4th place went to a pair of old moms i flipped instead of chooping, but its not accurate when they are grown for producion. At 2.3 oz per plant, these 4' moms still made :765 oz per foot of height for fourh place. Smells like pineapple and knocks you upside the head:

In third is grape ape, but she wont be sticking around either. She made 7th in overall yield, 181 grams of buds and 55 gr of popcorn made it 30% popcorn, and it just is too bushy, doesnt make good trees (would do well outdoor) and isnt spectacular smoke. Anoher purple bites the dust, even at .835 oz per foot out of 5 2' tall plants, it was still only 1.67 oz per plant and just isnt worh it. Here's some ga nugporn, sorry for the crappy camera:

Top two coming in a sec...

Oh fourth place was Jackpot, sorry about that.

Ok, second place, at 1.75 oz per plant, and :875oz per foot, is Wow! A keeper for sure, Wow grew big purple nugs of thick frost. Its SSH X blackberry kush, and though it doesnt stretch in flower, it vegges quickly. She will need 5 weeks to grow into trees, but she also doesnt clone for shit. Most of mine didnt stick. I will try her one more round:

Wow nugs:

This rounds big winner is Purple AK-47. Bought as 4' tall greenhouse girls, they didnt stretch a ton in flower, so they ended up about 4.5' tall, and 5.08 oz per plant times 20 big bushes. She doesnt clone well either, but these big frosty nugs came out to 6 pounds overall.

We will see how blu dragon yields soon, but jackpot would give pak a run for its money. I also cant wait to get some chocolopes going, and im getting of hose incredible old cuts of G13 that makes those monster colas. good things coming soon!

Lazy,

How's the temps up there..? Down here in socal it's burning holes in the ground, well over 100's in most of the area whew! What a nightmare for some people out there i'm sure.

So i just clipped all my buds into a bucket and they are really dry compared to previous runs. Temps in my dry closet were just a little too high (high 80's) and they ended up drying in about 2-3 days compared to my usual 5-6. I'm doing everything i can to rehydrate these flowers (orange peels, apples, etc.) but i think i may have lost a ton of weight due to rapid drying.. have you ever had this happen? Too fast of a dry costing you in weight? Will re-hydrating a little bring back any of that, or am i pretty much stuck with what i got? I swear it should have been at least 3.5# but im looking at just over 2 right now which is really disappointing.. :(

Any info/advice on rapid drying and re-hydrating techniques would be amazing!

Thanks!

If you put a glass or tub of water into a rubvermaid tub of buds, close it up and let it sit for 12 hours at a time it will get them wet again, but odds are you will be wasting your time. The buds just didnt have time to break down the chlorophyll, and its unlikely that you will be adding any weight back to them (pretty rare to see overdried buds, they are dry when theyre dry. If that makes sense?) Just make sure you dont physically get water on the buds, knowwhatimean?

Once the weed is rapidly over dried it's fate is alreAdy sealed when it comes to curing. Any attempts to rehydrated wih anything other than MJ stems n leaves can do potentially do more harm than good. Assisting in molding ur bounty possibly.
That's my take on it

Lazy great writeup on the yields and some good data. The purple AK looks like a winner. Just keep dialing in your strains and grow environment and you will only get bigger and better results.

damn lazy puttin in work!! man i wish my growers would seperate the popcorn from the choice nugs lol....thats some special care right there! and damn taking 300 clones in a single night and doing 100 transplants thats some serious labor..... i usually transplant at flip too..i was wondering if that was bad but i guess its not after seeing your results.. and did you say that sometimes the FFOF is old? like do you re-use it for a run? im using FFOF too and i ran some 10 gallon smartpots (way overkill big mistake) so my plants have a ton of extra unused soil in them...think i can re-use them?

real interested in that purple mr nice...it looks like some of the really nice dark purps i see around the bay. the WOW looks awesome too...where can you find that stuff.

and the recent heat wave has FUCKED some of my friends curing. seen alot of shit that cured way too fast and is all crunchy and ugly.....damn guess people are too cheap to buy an AC
