I was thinking about putting some clones outside early July to add to my current medical grow. Does anyone have experience planting this late?
Also, can the clones be put directly outside in the ground?
Can you stick a clone that has been under 24 hours of light outside now without it flowering? Do you have to transition them into the light difference?
try comb, do you think I'll have any problems in a few weeks? I'm not sure what kind of light cycle they typically put clones in. I'll be getting them from a dispensary
No Bassdrip, you cant put a clone or a seedling out now that has been under 24 hrs without it wanting to flower. After the 22 of june, days begin to get shorter and the plant will no that. Its just my 2 cents, but outdoor plants/seedlings should never be subjected to 24 hrs of light. The plants/ seedlings will probably spend a few weeks confused about what to do and then they will go into full flower around the middle of july.
Chefboy is right about lat and daylength. Perhaps you folks are far north of me. If daylength exceeds 15+hrs of light then they might indeed want to veg for a while, but after having their light cycle reduced by 40% and subjected to diminishing day length, they are going to want to flower. I have 14.75 hrs of light and dropping here at 36 n.
Trycomb: my response is based on studying/ reading mountains of cannabis research over the years combined with many years of outdoor and indoor grows in relation to the research. Numerous medical universities, Israel, Morroco, india and the U.S federal government have all studied cannabis extensively and much info is available on the cultivar.
The statement: " regaurdless of the light cycle they came from, plants put out in late june will continue to veg...." . Your absolute is contradicted by the fact that at 20N, the daylength is 13 hrs and all indica leaning strains will immediately flower at that light level- even if its in june..
With the exception of rooting clones, outdoor plants should never be subjected to more light than necessary and should be kept as close as possible to the natural daylength.
cannabis produces a substance known as auxins. Auxins are produced in relation to the amount of light the plant recieves. Auxins can act to delay flowering as they build in the plant. The higher the level of auxins, the later the plant will set flower and the slower the flowers will develop. If you spend some time reviewing the literature, you will discover that a plant kept under 24 hrs of light willl always set flower later than plants grown under less light because of auxin buildup related to the excessive light exposure. This effect isnt seen with indoor grows because the daylength can be manipulated so as to force flower. A number of cannabis experts have suggested that the quickest way to get a plant to flower/mature would be to wait until june to plant the seed. This plant would have no opportuntiy to develop and build up auxins and therefor will trigger into flower very easily.
The literature regaurding sexuality and cannabis is unequivocal in the understanding that abrupt changes in daylength in cannabis increases stress dramatically along with the probability of gender confusion, relative to the unnatural changes . Here come the hermie reports
The age of the clones and clone mother can be a factor as well. Clones from an old mother are much more likely to trigger.
ZWH, i didnt mean to imply that putting your plants out now would be a bad thing, in fact just the opposite. I plant all the way up to aug 1. The plants planted on 8/1 will immediately trigger and will finish at about 3' with 3 or so ozs of weed. I have some clones that will go out in a week or so and they will be triggered into flower shortly after transplant which will also trigger preflower growth. The plants will finish from 4-5 feet tall by Oct because preflower growth is much more rapid than vegatative growth. It is identified as "stretch" indoors. Outdoors the process is slower but still apparrent. In the period between Aug and Oct, the preflower growth rate can be triple the rate of the vegatative growth period seen from May - july...
I make these statements / conclusions as a result of study and experience. I'm not looking to contadict or offend anyone. Im open to debate and discussion.
24/0 to outdoor can induce flowering. I tryed with two clones (around April) and both flowered. Got a micro harvest from one and now is revegging much more bigger than before!
May be better to do 24/0 (indoor) -> 20/4 -> 18/6 -> 16/8 (Outdoor) to be sure that you don't get any stress but I think this should be made in about 2 weeks of time
that is because in april there isn't enough light yet........
tought it was because the month but other plants just veg normally during that period so I tought it should not flower..
are you sure isn't because the light? Moving from 18/6 to outdoor didnt' streess my plants and didnt flower them.
