Is weed legal i n New York?

Can I smoke anywhere? What should I need to smoke in New York without getting into legal troubles. Also, is weed legal for recreational use?

from what i understand up to 3oz's is legal to have, and u can smoke anywhere u can smoke cigarettes - growing will become legal 18mos after the 1st disp. opens - i don't see one opening till middle of 22, so 18ms later will be in 2024...
