I am not saying they should necessarily do shows on tofu burgers and kelp, but ARE they trying to kill you or get you to commit suicide by food? At a time when the obesity rate, cholesterol levels, diabetes, and heart disease are at or near all-time highs, do they even try to promote good health? Hell no!
Instead, they do shows like Bacon Paradise or shows on burgers, ice cream, or in the case of Man vs Food, extreme gluttony. These are not the foods or values we should be promoting. Those eating challenges should be banned PERIOD. How many people even come close to eating it all? And if they don't, a lot of food is wasted. Instead of a meals tax, there should be a tax for how much you leave on your plate!
What is the solution? I am sure shows on vegetarian eating would tank as soon as they aired, let's face it the average idiot (including me) loves these foods. But who knows healthy shows may do well. There should be some balance at least. I would love to learn how to make vegetarian meals to cut back on meat. I would love to see shows on the best restaurants in my area and around the world (not just the priciest, or the freakiest, but good everyday places to eat). I would love to see a show on best beaches, not for luxury hotels or other reasons, just the beach itself. And ok maybe the general scence too. How about you?
Also I think travel channel should be about making you a better educated traveler (not the mind rot that is usually there), the history channel should be about history (not aliens or monsters), and so on. But that is for another thread. Tell me how you think TV could improve.
