Is reflective wall material needed in vertical?

My take is if you can afford it do it. And for tree setups, it's not optional. I'm going to use a product called Prodex in my tree rooms. It's similar to reflectix but instead of bubbles it is a closed cell foam core that doesnt collapse over time, and has a higher R rating than reflectix. Probably not quite as flexible, so reflectix will still be in order for plumbing. Google "Prodex" to check it out.

Then why would you use it Marlo........

I originally set up this closet as a flat garden and the reflective material was necessary. I started with white paint, then mylar, then reflectix. The reflectix works great, and also provides some insulation.

But since switching to vert, it probably doesn't serve as big a purpose because much less light is hitting it. But, I guess every lil bit helps. I'd rather have it than not.

I do plan to cover the ceiling in reflectix. I could see it being useful in my setup. Shoulda done it a long time ago. I just haven't gotten around to it.

I tend to ask myself what would Heath Robinson do? The answer is he covers everything in reflectix. It also helps deaden sound along with everything else mentioned.

Covering your floor is more important than the ceiling since your bulb ends point down.
Any light hitting the ceiling with base up bulbs is reflected off something to begin with. The bulb end does kick out much more light than I thought according to my cave man style white board tests..

If the canopy is perfect in a vert grow, the walls should be all shadows, but we all know this rarely happens. I plan to upgrade my white walls for next run to return something from a less than perfect canopy.....

I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one aero... Your lamps form a line of light that mostly blasts light to the sides. When that light is reflected off the walls, it goes everywhere, including the ceiling and floors... Hardly anything is coming off the bottom of the lamp...

I`ve never had a vertical setup with black shaded walls Aero.....I do understand what you`re saying though in a smaller setup with plants surrounding the bulbs......but....

600`s have always blasted sideways with penetration at least 36" , and 1K`s 42-ish,even though you think light`s not getting through the plants , it is.......just at different wavelengths , and guaranteed it`s bouncin off the reflectix covered walls and back to the plants , instead of being absorbed and not reflected with no wall coverings.......and yes......

I agree witchas on the floor somewhat , but not much light`s directed down with bare bulbs , but with everything that`s not green covered in reflectix , light bounces up and down , and all around the room for the ultimate lumen absorption by the plants from light coming from all angles at all times.......

It`s the little things guys......btw......Loved yer root porn Aeroheadski.....and your air pruned porcupines too Bobble......

Peace...DHF....:ying:....

you know you have good reflection when your fan leafs are healthy but start twisting in weird ways cause the light is so bright in all directions...

And the congregation said, "Amen and hallelujah", let's all bow our heads and thank god for Heath Robinson.....
