In the market for a new carbon filter (and maybe a fan)

Right now im rocking a ghetto diy carbon filter attached to a stanley blower motor. Works ok but its a bit louder than i'd like (i have it hanging from bungies)

This is currently 'cooling' (its still hot as fk, i hate summer sometimes) a 600w in a 4x4x8 ft room.

Can anyone recommend either a carbon filter that would work the best with the stanley blower or even a silent fan / carbon filter combo that would do my room justice?

I'd prefer to order from HTG supply as i've done business with them in the past but I'm open to other suggestions as well.

ostberg inline, most powerful fan I know of, there energy certified ( whatever that counts for ) , and there not some american made junk

is it the phresh filter that is super light? well the ones that super light as they work ,and aren't a bitch to mount or however you deal with your carbon. you do need a rivet gun though if you want to re-use them as there rivited ( there suppose to throw away, but don't throw it away, recycle the aluminum if your not gonna re-use it )

I would even suggest, if budget is a concern, that the valueline fans are comparable to Vortex.Profilter/Phresh/Phat...some folks will tell you Can filters are the best, I just think they're over-priced.

I've had my HTG 6" inline fan running non stop for 2 years now its still going just fine. For filters I use the Can 33 and now I just bought a Can 38 special which is a little bit cheaper than the 33, havent used it yet tho. My 1 complain with the HTG fans is that the casing needs to be sealed with a piece of foil tape as it is a bit leaky and loud, but once sealed it works awesome and not too loud either.

Most everything I have bought from HTG, tents, fans, cloners etc... has been great, but I DO NOT recommend HTG carbon filters as they are cheap pieces of shit. I used the HTG carbon filter for a few grows, and altho I didnt have any smell issues (that I know of) I will say the quality is absolute garbage when compared to CAN brand filters.

The CAN brand filters are very heavy and dense, when shaken you hear nothing rattling around, the HTG filters are very light, thin walled, with a piece of shit prefilter and when shaken you hear shit moving around inside. The HTG filter might do the job but I wouldn't trust my freedom to it.

Get a CAP Valueline. They blow true CFM as rated, draw less watts, and are probably the quietest fan you can get. Also, the are super affordable. They are made by GE.

I would consider looking at a Phresh filter.

Yeah for the money the CAP valueline fans are good. I find them a bit loud though. Not too bad.

plantlightinghydroponics carries the cap (I have a 6") and they carry Phat filters, who although had some issues a couple years ago right now are selling well made value carbon filters for damn good prices.

plh is in Ohio and will get stuff to you on average just as fast as HTGsupply


P.S. if you chose a CAN filter don't forget the order a flange you gotta attach it yourself, not that its too tough drill a few holes & stick some foam tape on it

I have can filters 1 9000 and 1 H-33. I used sheet metal screws and foam rubber seal. No problems so far.

I have a Phresh, a Phat, and a Mountain Air. The Mountain Air works far better than the other two, although they work pretty well.

I use Can filters, and both Can and Vortex blowers. The biggest difference (IME) between the popular, brand name filters (Can, Mountain Air, Phat, etc.) is the lifespan of the filter. Caveat - I usually run my filters in a recirculating rather than exhausting configuration, so if there is a significant difference in odor absorption, I may not have noticed.

just purchased the phat filter and valueline 6in fan from plh, thanks for all the great recommendations! Once it arrives and gets installed ill report back on my thoughts.

I agree with most here, I run cap valueline fans. And definitely stay away from HTG carbon filters..... they don't come completely full of carbon and just plain didnt work, I do a can 75 now and am very happy.

Very happy with my budget blower and filter

phat filter
and the hydrofarm 6" 400 cfm (the green one)

The hydrofarm 400 cfm is SUCKING from a darkroom 120 and a dark propagator momma/clone tent, and it sucks the sides in fine, and i run it at 25% power (now) its pushes through the Phat carbon filter......Both fan and filter are outside the tent.

Don't really know yet, why i would need to spend 300+ on a combo
compared to 160 or so.....I love high tech stuff.....when i need to pay for it. The adjuster for the fan, is nice to have! I makes the fan about 50% more quite, and it still vents both tents well.......
