I applied the neem oil because I traded some plants with a friend and their plants had alot of mites on it although they look very healthy. My plants that I already had have no mites it was just a precautionary measure based on possibly travel from the newly acquired trades.
I use a neem/seaweed mix that I mix myself to control mites. Liquid seaweed is used in different commercial organic insect sprays.
Studies from the 60's have found that liquid ascophyllum nodosum reduced populations of several different pests, and that when combined with insecticides makes the mixture more efficacious.[Seaweed and Plant Growth T.L. Senn 1987]
Its thought that the gibberillins and the hormones in liquid seaweed are the components that keep the insects from sexually maturing.
I've used this mix for several months now with good results. Mites are controlled and plants are happy.
