That is three now that I have heard of. AN, GE, and now Hortilux.

My thoughts are running towards calling low frequency digital established technology and watching for reliability reports.

I have 4 CMH running on coil and core, hot. I have a sunpulse on digital, annoying arc movement.

One of these low freq ballasts are going in my budroom, just don't know which one yet.

I seen these new Ballast's at the Max Yield show. Sales rep told me they have been perfecting this ballast for a few years now and they are made in Japan. from what I have read seems like they will be good quality. I think they are going to be pretty pricey tho.

Phaeton, really? So you have a familiarity with the electronics of these things?

Familiar? all things are relative, I have a basic understanding of how different ballasts work. The reliablility is all from the components themselves and the care taken to assemble the fixture.
Company rep and then user reports are it for new products.
The tech itself is nowhere's near new, just the production had to wait for demand.

General Electric has photos of the insides of their unit from every angle there is, plus photos of it in action. Did not see the price. It looks commercial duty, I like that but it usually doubles the price over hobby quality.

I have found lights pay for themselves and do not quibble about price, only reliablility. Down time can cost more than any two fixtures if it happens at the wrong time.

just being manufactured in Japan by horti gives me so much more faith in the ballast than if it was made by some nameless/faceless Chinese joint

I shifted my focus from mags to digitals because the digitals can handle MH and HPS both. They can also dim. The more I learn about the dimming the less enthusiastic I am about it.

I sure liked the history of reliability with the big mags
