Harsh

Last grow I went pretty heavy on the molasses because the plants seemed to love it.

I read in the organic forum that if you grow 100% organic there is no need to flush because there is no salt/chemical build-up on the roots.

But this batch is kinda harsh. Still powerful and it might be a strain thing, but I'm wondering if maybe using too much molasses could contribute to that harshness? :tiphat:

too much of anything could cause that IMHO, no i dont flush. but give plain water for the last week or 2. i have accidentally not gave plain water before and it was still good. maybe because of my feeding regime. i feed less but every watering.

Molasses is high in magnesium and would definitely contribute to a harsh smoke if not used properly... i.e.
a. used in a tea versus used as fertilizer
b. added to the tea and not directly on the soil
c. plain water the last 2 weeks

Supermanlives: Isn't plain water for the last two weeks what people mean when they say flushing?

LittleAmsterdam: What is the difference between using molasses in a tea and watering straight into the medium?

Thanks

Flushing is giving the plant 200%-300% more water in attempt to flush out the unused nutrients.
Some say flushing causes too much stress so they stick with their normal watering regime, but with plain water. I guess you can call this a modified flush without the stress of the all the extra water... (I believe if you don't over fertilize, you shouldn't need to flush other than plain water the last 2 weeks)

Molasses IMHO should be added directly to a tea and brewed for a few days before allowed to touch my soil. Molasses is high in natural sugars and lots of minerals like magnesium. The sugar is what helps bring the tea alive. Adding molasses directly to your soil is creating a toxic mess....
