Hopar Valley, adjacent to the Chinese Xinjiang province, is a subarctic valley enclosed by the imposing Karakoram Mountains. The region of Gilgit, located at a latitude of 35° North, lies in the southeastern reaches of the Hindu Kush mountain ranges. Gilgit borders Afghanistan, China, and Russia, making it a significant geopolitical area with diverse cultural influences.

British journalist Biddulph Describes the region as:
Gilgit is Situated in the most mountainous regions of Himalayas. Nowhere else in world probably is there to be found so great numbers of deep valleys and lofty mountains in so small a compass. With elevation reaching up to 4,800 feet above sea level and mountains which are partly covered with Vegetation.

Situated at an elevation of 2,500 meters above sea level, Hopar Valley hosts a unique population of cannabis adapted to its short growing season. Cultivation begins in late May, with harvesting starts in late September as frost gradually encroaches on the region. This resilient cannabis strain has evolved to withstand the valley's harsh climatic conditions.

The survival traits inherent in this landrace enable the plants to thrive despite the extreme environment, ensuring their continued presence in Hopar Valley without importing seeds from any other region which simply dictates the purity of the cannabis in the region of Hopar valley.

The cannabis landrace of Hopar Valley exhibits a Christmas tree-like structure, characterized by medium-tall height, robust growth, and abundant flower production. By mid-September, most plants in the valley reach maturity, with some maturing from early to mid-October due to their diverse genetic expressions.

Among these plants, the inflorescences display a striking array of colors, including deep purple, black, and pink. These plants are notable for their heavy weight flowers and large trichome heads, in contrast to the dry-textured resin production of Afghanica hash plants in Afghanistan.

With the flowering period of only 8-9 weeks, the population of Hoper Valley Gilgit shows dark purple hues on the bracts and foliage of the flowering plant, such greater anthocyanin production helps the plants stay protected under the chilly weather.
Aroma of these phenotypes is ranging from strong fuel/Gasoline, industrial dyes with an undertone of Pine and cedar.

Highly domesticated BLD variants, which are not anywhere similar to something which you have experienced out of a bottle neck hybridization.

Some of these Gilgit Variants are dominating melon, musk, cloves, lime, burnt cayenne and thinner like offensive aroma which rushes into your nose and can causes an unpleasant experience to novice growers.

As global interest in heirloom cannabis strains continues to grow, the Hopar Valley landrace stands poised to capture the fascination of those seeking the rare and the remarkable, preserving a piece of Gilgit's natural heritage for generations to come.
