General Advice for Young Folks

if you are a parent, know that love is not warm and fuzzy. it means saying "no" and being tough. learn to hold the line and display alpha. more guidance, less fuzz. don't feel that the child needs to "like" you all the time.

you can show them warm and fuzzy when they mature.

the tuition i paid for this knowledge was exorbitant.

Life is too short, so make the most of it. Take responsibility for your quality of life by exercising and eating well.

Stop saying "I don't know." Flex your brain now and stay sharp for the next 80 years.

Drop the attitude. You're no more important than anyone else.

Be grateful for everything you have, no matter how little it may appear to be.

Slow down, and stop looking for shortcuts.

Pull your pants up. Think for yourself instead of following the pack.

Rediscover integrity. With the right knowledge, you really can accomplish whatever goals you set.

Forgive everyone. Forget the past and stop worrying about the future. Focus on what you're doing, and do it well.

Understand the importance of giving without expecting anything in return.

Didn't read all this...

-If you think you can or you think you can't, you are probably right.
It sounds like cheese, but your mind is more powerful than you can imagine.

-Before going to sleep think of three positive things you did that day.
Again, cheese, but do this for a week and you will feel better, then do it every night

-I will never think to myself, "I wish I hadn't banged all those girls in college."

All great advise and well said. Here's my submission, with all due respect.

Learn discipline.
Learn how to do research.
File your taxes on time.
Learn about the things you hate.
Learn to love yourself.
Learn about respect.
Admit when you are wrong.

Admire the strength of others.
Eat more fruits and vegetables.
Learn a trade, like plumbing or welding.
Study kung fu.
Learn compassion.
Learn to play an instrument.
Be patient.

Avoid beliefs, embrace faith.
Donate to charity.
Have dessert, often.
Study philosophy, east and west.
Turn off the TV and the inner-webs once in a while.
Fall in love at least once.
Learn to be helpful.

Study successful people.
Vote.
Save some money.
Learn a foreign language.
Pain is a function of the nerves, not a signal to give up.
Learn to cook.
Be someone's friend.

Living your life as you see fit is a privilege. Make your parents proud of you. Let them see how precious you find your life to be. Thank them for this gift by living well and behaving like a human being. There are more than 6 billion of us on the planet. It's not going to be easy, but you can help make it worthwhile. And even if you turn out to be an asshole someone else can still learn from that. It's not at all hopeless.

Good luck, and pass that joint over here.

Here is something from one of the guys who said it best:

Ben Franklin's 13 virtues
Temperance: Eat not to dullness; drink not to elevation
Silence: Speak not but what may benefit others or yourself; avoid trifling conversations
Order: Let all your things have their places; let each part of your business have its time
Resolution: Resolve to perform what you ought; perform without fail what you resolve
Frugality: Make no expense but to do good to others or yourself; that is, waste nothing
Industry: Lose not time; be always employed in something useful; cut off all unnecessary actions
Sincerity: Use no hurtful deceit; think innocently and justly; speak accordingly
Justice: Wrong none by doing injuries or omitting the benefits that are your duty
Moderation: Avoid extremes; forbear resenting injuries so much as you think you deserve
Cleanliness: Tolerate no uncleanliness in body, clothes or habitation
Tranquility: Be not disturbed at trifles or accidents common or unavoidable
Chastity: Rarely use venery but for health or offspring; never to dullness, weakness, or the injury of your own or another's peace or reputation
Humility: Imitate Jesus and Socrates

Ben was pretty good at telling others what to do and how to be. But CLEANLINESS? Dude took "air" baths and stunk to high heaven. And apparently he was a notorious philanderer. :tiphat:

dont even consider marriage untill you had some fun. screw all the babes you can , travel as much as possible, drink like a fish, fight and have fun. you will soon come to remember and cherish these things later on. when life has become hell and your old lady is bitching. LOL

party and have as much fun as you can...
try to start working as early in life as you can
as long as you enjoy working ,you'll never go hungry or be a bum

If you don't want to stop partying and grow up thats fine
But understand that working will create an equal balance to partying
If you you never lose site of this principle, you can have a good life and party
without giving up either ...

I tell my boys, "Don't knock anybody up!"
I've told the girls, "Don't let anybody knock you up!"

Pull my finger.
