Regarding seeds, anything from the Niravana seeds range at seeds direct, good genetics, excellent prices, and u get a free pack of seeds every time u order from seeds direct.

The author of these above linked soil grow tutorials linked is a guy named B.O.G. (Bushy Older Grower).
Bog seeds wont dissapoint, maybe try something like "Bogbubble" which has a reputation for producing excellent buds and lots of them, from what I understand. :)
My friend has been growing out his current medley mix and I must say that we are quite impressed by the Excellent quality genetics he produces.

BOGBUBBLE is HERE!!! This mostly indica is a large yielder indoors that produces the stickiest buds you can imagine. From my tried and true BOGBG#3 Mother Plant. 45-50 days flowering.

Of course inexpensive seeds from "Nirvana", such as "Northern Lights" might be a good way to go the first time "out of the gate", particularly if ones never grown anything at all before.
:)
Good Luck with your new hobby. :)
