First breeding ever...Colombian Mangobiche x unknown, but rancid, imported Mexican Desert Skunk

This cross was not planned at all but the skunk male is so acrid and arrived at such a perfect point where the MBs were flowering that I let the guy have his way with them.

I have my own MB seed anyway and I can always take clones of both if I want. The MBs were cuttings from some of the biggest MBs ive ever seen.

Maybe I haven't had a good skunk in a while but this guy I can smell from any part of the house and its a very airy and open farm house. Ive got a good feeling about this cross. No commercial interest whatsover just cutting my teeth with the breeding.

Which brings me to a question: what kind of inputs should I be using on my plants to help boost health and quality when creating seed?
Any and all input most welcome!

Growing outdoors the kind of inputs should be determined by the type or soil condition. If you are in high-pH clay soil, one would add acidic amendments. If you are in sandy loam with an acidic pH the amendments should be basic. Just giving a plant plain sugar with compost can boost the microbe population boosting seeding production outdoors.

Indoors for seed production, it's important to have a complete 17-nutrient diet by maintaining a consistent EC thru flowering. If you are growing in Organic super soil containers just use pure clean water during the whole grow. Keep us posted and thanks for sharing your work.

Finally germinated the Mangobiche x Mexican Sativa Skunk on that last full moon.

99% germination rate, vigorous growth, nice long and strong, lime green stems. Doing well so far. I believe ive got 31 going atm.

Hey man, Ive in MIA for a while lol but yes the MBSkunks are doing pretty darn good, i'm really happy so far! I'll be posting an update tomorrow possibly.

Also I'm not sure what plant you are referring to...is it really big?

Heres a preview of the frontline of the MBSkunks and they smell great!

Cheers meng!

Sounds Like you will get some great F1 Hyrbids out of this Mix, Just out of curiosity Lugo, what is the flowering time outdoors on your MB? and @ dark storm thats sick whats the flowering time on your old columbian strain?
The Mangobiche moms used in this cross took almost 9 months to finish. And in 1 liter bags. A baby could've been born. Unpollinated its usually a 90-120+ day flower so it depends on your veg time too.

So 31 seeds of what I for the moment call MBSkunk (which is Colombian Mangobiche (SMG x Afghani) x an unknown Mexican Sativa Skunk imported from MX) germinated and were all off to a great start. Bioluminescence (glowing bands on the stem) was noted in about 8-9 of the seedlings which was very interesting, only 1 of the glow worms did not survive.

Out of about 36 seeds only about 5 did not germinate so I just tossed them into the pots with the soil mix only to have them germinate 2 weeks after which was quite a surprise, so now I have a couple of time delayed twins I need to figure out what to do with which is always fun. Worse case scenario ill just cull them although that delayed germination tells me theres something special going on.

So ive got a nice looking frontline of 7 plants (+ 2 twins) that are looking lovely. Slow growers and with a very velvety, almost aromatic herb type texture to the leaf. Like a smooth, uniform basil or oregano. Slightly meaty and tender, very bright green, almost a golden green. After handling them the last few days I got an unmistakable scent of what I call old school skunk or crip. Not acrid, just a well pronounced and heavy, old school skunk smell. Very pleased that they're odiferous at this early stage. Well see how that evolves. Also these troopers proved to fend off pests and take a serious beating from the summer wind and high heat with no harm done.

Now the second batch I refer to as the goonies. Smaller plants, less uniformity, took quite a beating from caterpillars, spidermites, white flies, serious wind and heat but somehow survived to the next round. Cleaned them up and I think if at least half push through ill be happy.

Anybody have info on glowing stems in seedlings? Have plenty of pics and vids.

So basically just about half of the seedlings were naturally selected out.

Sounds like a sweet cross man! I did a Mangobiche x Blueberry Sativa that was awesome….I am with you on the possibilities of this cross….best of luck man!

FYI, I have found that seed germination is better after you give them a “cold snap” or chill them in the fridge for a few weeks….it mimics the “overwintering” that cannabis seeds do in nature as they are annuals.

Just a little update on my MBSkunks. After culling I ended up with 17 plants. Almost an even split between males and females. A tiny bit of initial transplant shock in 2 but generally all did well. Very nice phenotipic range. After sexing all but 1 went into reveg, #10 ♀️ is flowering out nicely and smells of astringent white wine. Probably gonna veg them through the rest of the year then take clones and flower out the parents for breeding selections. So far ive got 2 very interesting, red-stemmed males. Unfortunately 1 has had issues with a weird kind of purple staining that tries to deform the new leaf growth. Im treating it as botrytis with Sodium Bicorbonate solution which is working but I still have no idea what it is and nobody else seems to know either! Ill post in the infermary.

The veg room smells like a skunk farted in there 🦨

Looks like the transplant, foliar and feeding is kicking in on these MBSkunk F1s.

Very interesting phenotypic range being expressed.

Ill be posting all of the 17 phenos soon but heres an example of 4 different different expressions within these F1s.

All of these plants have been oderiferous since early on and now that their daylght hours are being extended indoors the aroma inside and outside the veg room is undeniable. Farty and skunky is the only way I can describe it.

I decided to let #10 flower out fully. She smells like an astringent white wine at the moment.
