This seems to be kind of a tired thread at this point but would recommend the 3 disc series 'The Power of Nightmares'. Pretty sure it's a BBC series but anyway for me helped me understand the roots of the radical Islamic movement with Sayyid Kutb and some Neo Conservative college professor based in Michigan or Minnesota as the counter. Quite fascinating I thought!
Kutb spent time in the US in the early 50's and ended up being the driving force behind Anwar Sadat's assassination and the radical Islamic movement in general. Interesting parallels between the root cause of the radical Islamic movement and the Neo Converative's which really expressed itself in the Bush administration.
Definitely recommended!
It's about the rise of politics of fear...Leo Strauss was the college professor I mentioned.
At the least a worth watch.
