Anyone else grown this strain out? Did you find it picky?

I ask as I have 2 right now and while the other plants seem to be going great, the chocolope just do not look healthy. I was just wondering if anyone found it to be a finicky strain to dial in and if so, any tricks or tips would be appreciated.

I grew it some years ago

eventhough it is pretty fast flowering it´s still very much a sativa so it doesnt need much nutes, and it is a bit delicate, the leaves are paper thin and the branches dont suport much weight, I have read some reports of it streching alot, but mine stayed quite short and would easily have been overgrown by most other strains, but when you put them into flower thats when the magic happens, you see why the branches and leaves are so thin, why spend energy on that when you can make buds instead, one of the easiest strains to trim, and the taste and high is very nice, its not a one hit killer and its not a racing haze high, its more of a "fuck you world im feeling sooo good right now" kinda high :)

I hope yours turn out as good as mine, I´ve grown alot of different strains and most just kind of blur together, but Chocolope I remember and will hopefully grow again

plant on the left is Chocolope, not sure about the one on the right, might be Chem#4xOG

Hello ! Its not nute shy at all , just the opposite. It can be a Cal/Mag hog which it definitely needs if yours looks unhealthy. Handles plenty of N no problem once it has its proper Cal/Mag. Epsom salts add plenty of supplemental Mag which it craves.
If you get the short squat pheno you will be very happy, it is incredible great smoke.
9-10 weeks with a very awake clear energetic happy very potent Sativa buzz. A very high energy strain great for energy, getting things done.

A Buddy had 2 plants, one had a great stretch and yielded about 250 grams, the other one was rather short and more resinous but average to low yield ~60 gram. Great Herb!

The shorter pheno´s effect is very electrifying and creative/funny. The big one´s effect is happy and you feel like you have to get things done , but in a focused and not racy way.
One of my favourite strains at the moment..

A nug of the bigger pheno

Hello Bmac1 , you did say "while the other plants seem to be going great, the chocolope just do not look healthy. I was just wondering if anyone found it to be a finicky strain to dial in and if so, any tricks or tips would be appreciated."

As someone who had similar trouble with Chocolope at first, I did discover that they craved extra Cal/Mag. Have run Chocolope about 3 years, the adding of much Cal/Mag while flowering has resulted in very healthy beautiful plants - much improved from the first attempts.
The "Cannalope Haze" of DNA is well known/suspected as being a C-99 pheno. Bros Grimm/Mr Soul stated extra Cal/mag back in the day for C-99.

Wish you all the success, just telling you what has worked for me.
pro Mix is good soil but you certainly have to add nutes and supplements to it for most strains.

is this this strain who was supposed to be a C99 hybrid ? i remember having read something like a fraud problem at a cannabis cup years ago maybe the IC cannabis cup i dont remember well, any members remember this ?

Thanks for the info. I know that promix has no nutes in it and I use GH 3 part with some additives. I will pick up some cal mag just to try and see what happens. I was very excited to try this strain out but Im not even sure If either of the 2 I have vegging right now will make it to flower.

A lot of people add extra lime to promix.. I've heard powdered dolomite (not calcitic) lime @ 2 tablespoons per gallon of promix.
Dolomite lime is roughly 22% Ca and 11% Mg.
Extra perlite doesn't hurt in promix either.

I picked up some calmag and will give it a try for sure. I think I may be on to something though.

I had been using pro-silicate and adding it at the end of mixing the nutes. I have done some reading that it should be added first to the water and then add the nutes as the silica will bond to the calcium causing a lockout of sorts.

This makes sense as a lot of the signs of stress seem to be calcium deficiency.

I gave them a feeding the day before last and didnt use the pro-silicate at all and all plants look good and the chocolope seem to have perked up.

I am going to try mixing the pro-silicate at half dose first and then adding the nutes with some calmag and see what happens.

So they got some calmag in them and while one of them seems to have perked up some, the other still looks sickly. All other plants continue to do well.

I am going to try just water and see if that does anything as now I have major leaf clawing on the one and some of the leaf tips are curling to the left.

They are 4 days into 12/12 right now and if they arent shaping up by the end of next week they will be removed.

Maybe they are just weak plants? Whatever the case, I hope there is a keeper in the remaining 4 seeds of her I have cause I was really excited about this one.

It can certainly be a bit of a challenge to get Chocolope dialed in.
That is the drawback of the Cal/Mag, it does have some N which can cause the curl if N is already strong.
Epsom salts might work a little better as Mag seems to be the bigger need.
Chocolope is sure worth dialing in, if you get that short pheno you will be very happy.

One of them has turned the corner nicely but the other is still not rebounding the way I would like. Their last watering was just that, water.

I am feeding all the plants at half strength with GH 3 part, calimagic, silica blast and just got some sm-90.

I hope the other rebounds but Im not holding my breath.

one of my plants stayed very short and seemed kinda weak, it was done in just under 8 weeks, yielded the least, but it had the best taste and high by far, and I wished I had cloned it, with a longer veg im sure it could have yielded better

Yes with a longer veg that short pheno will yield much better. But I did the same thing expecting it to stretch. It is the shortest, most compact sativa I have ever seen- the smoke is awesome. Great for ADHD in small amounts and great for energy and getting things done, a somewhat early pick will have you unable to sit down lol

BMAc hope that other turns around for you. At least one sounds like it is doing OK.

aint that the way! if you got a room full of muti strain or lots of diff phenos,it almost always seems the little girl in the corner with lowest yield and no clones taken seems to be the best for taste and aroma,,
i often wonder if its nature having a little "laugh" with us for fooling the plants that indoor is outdoor amongst other things,,,,s2
