Dispensary sativa nonsense

For comparison purposes, I snapped a pic of a Kali Mist nug. She went 100 days and yielded medium sized, very fluffy buds. This sample has been jar cured for 2+ years now. No tolerance build up - after 3 years of smoking her, I still only take 2-3 bong hits. There is a ceiling, but it takes a lot to get there.
Wake me when I can buy an eighth of real Kali Mist for 50$ at a dispensary. Until then, color me seriously disappointed with the CA MMJ scene.

When I grew Kali Mist I noticed several phenotypes. My favorite was a high-yielder (equal to most indicas) of chocolatey-tasting nugs that had a joyful, energetic, fun, creative, party kind of high. It only took 90 days to finish.

My least favorite KM was a fluffier spicier tasting phenotype that had an overwhelmingly cerebral/paranoid/freakout high.

I can't wait to get some more KM seeds and try to find my lost pheno... sigh..

I had two phenos. The one I am talking about sounds like your fluffy pheno. I have taken her at 90 days, but she's better at 100. Smells very incense. The high is indeed kinda extreme until you "acclimate," and I wouldn't call it "kind" even though she gives good euphoria. The other pheno I had finished in 70 days and was a poor yielder with smaller pointy buds that were more indica like in density. I had to lose both when I moved, but I have a couple "accidental" fem seeds due to some minor light leaks on my 2nd run.

I stopped by Harborside a couple weeks back and picked up something called Kanaga, which is supposedly an African sativa. I'd believe that it is African as it certainly wasn't dutch weed and it does have a very slight sativa effect but I found the high to be quite bland - stoney and not euphoric. Smells like yellow baby poop and I'd guess it was grown organically. At $45 an 1/8th, it was at least reasonably priced in the context of today's market.

This is true at least to some extent. Was in a very highly rated and popular dispensary here in socal the other day, heard a budtender giving customers a complete load of shit.

I remember when honesty used to be worth something.

Mango Haze has been a nice sativa for us with EXCELLENT yield, uppy/trippy/strong high (it's why I'm awake right now), and fading to a body high (most of the time) at night.

But it has a light citrus flavor and otherwise is more in the earthy, woody, incensy spectrum of flavors and most of the people we work with want it to say kush or skunk or have a berry of some kind in the flavor and taste like skunk and fruit. They don't realize that there truly IS a very wide spectrum of flavors and smells. We had one big mother plant left and flowered it in May and June (it's an 8 weeker, but we let it go 10 this time to make sure it was fully flushed) and got over a half pound off of it. It's other issue is that the flavor is very light and subdued until it's cured for many months and so that's pretty pointless when people actually complain about it. I actually have to get two zips back from my cousin b/c he ended up not liking it, so at least I'll have about a 3-4 oz stash of it since it's the last we'll have for a while. We have more MH seeds and also Super Silver Haze (it's sister), but we have a project in the works now and another to do right after ward so dealing with all of that will take the rest of this year and most of the Spring. I doubt we'll get to it again for another year or two if then.

Anyhow, you seem to have a brain about sativas, so you may want to look into the Mango Haze. Also, the Johnny Blaze from DJ Short is an excellent sativa with the blueberry flavor and euphoria, but the uppiness of a sativa without the jitters (DJ's kindess showing through.) We've got two phenomes of that going and a third one that is coming along that we'll test run this fall and see if it's better than the other two.

Best wishes, I truly feel your frustration. Of course, anyone that likes the mango haze is immediately recognizable as a connoisseur of pot and someone who understands the full spectrum of flavors, smells, and effects. I mean really, people think if it doesn't knock them off their ass, it isn't good pot. They are too stupid to realize they can draw energy, motivation, and inspiration from that sativa "clear high" that you mention.

Good luck to you in finding the perfect phenotype.. and hopefully good karma to me. When you find the partyparty kalimist... you will know... its just like WEEEEE lets play disc golf no lets make art no lets go clubbing...

Mine is floating out there still maybe... I spread clones to around ten people off OG... all over the country... I hope its still giving people fun times.

One day I will find the right kalimist pheno again... and grow massive sativa trees in a medical state... make the world partypartyparty.

I grew Kali mist in 05 and got 2 distinct phenos completely opposite ends of the spectrum. One was Indica Dominant and was super potent the 2ND was sativa like shown above. I could only find this one pic of the Indica Pheno......She was very short and her buds where pretty dense.....

I just started 5 plants.......

I'm growing a couple packs of C99 F2's at the moment, but Kali Mist is next on my "to do" list. Either that or Super Silver Haze, or maybe a pack of both. I've read so many great things about both strains, I'd like to find an awesome mother plant from each strain to keep for the long term.

Beautiful picture, by the way. I've only seen buds that shiny and crystally on my original C99 grow. I didn't get any pictures as good as that one, unfortunately.

Which is why I don't buy dispensary weed or anything at a dispensary. Everything is crap. Nothing is what they claim it to be. Everything early harvested, not flushed, snap crackle pop of mites.

Even I have to fight with DM to grow the long flowering sativas, he hates it when I'm like, hey, we're going to grow this 16 week sativa.... he complained everyday that it was wasting space etc etc, but you know what? My patients really loved it, even though the 1 plant only yielded 4 oz of trimmed buds, with a 16 week flowering time in a sealed room with co2.... it was kali most x cocoa kush x dp flo, and it really reminded me of the old landrace sativas, VERY FLUFFY buds, wispy almost, tons of trichome coverage.

So even for us not greedy growers, and those doing it because we love it, it's not easy to grow those really long flowering time sativas. Most people don't have the patience. I do it, but rarely, and when I have a specific goal in mind- like the red trichome project that the kali most cross was about, which I will revisit later when I have the time.
