Not the first time I tried this but what's the deal with tryin to pop seeds this time of year.

Ok I am on the west coast in BC to clarify

Has anybody had a problem with germination rates this time of year

I am at a loss. All that comes to mind is the atmosperic and time of year being wrong for life to be germinating seasonally and all...

Am I on my own or????? is winter the wrong time of year or something????

spose it's possible there's a seasonal purging of your municipal water system that could be affecting things - it's just not something typically on the agenda for winter (always been an item to keep an eye on in spring around here)

nope used my own boiled distilled water.

I have a heat pad, they are like this,

see the white dish with the lid on it.
they are on an identical dish turned upside down on a heat mat. so they are not to hot dierecly on the heat mat

Temperature must not go below a certain level. If the seed does not maintain a warm state while it is germinating, it will die and turn to mush. Heat mat for germination.

Next time you might try this..Dampen a paper towel. Fold the paper towel two times. Open the paper towel. Place the seeds in one of the creases on the paper towel. Fold the towel up on the same creases. Get a baggie. Put the seeds and towel into the baggie and blow a small amount of exhaled air into it too puff it up slightly. Don't worry if the air escapes after a period of time. Place the baggie on anything that is warm to the touch. Wait for two days then check and see if they've sprouted. If so, plant them as soon as possible. If they've not sprouted, place them back and wait another day and check again. I've never had seeds take longer than seven days to sprout. The ones that don't make it will soon turn mushy, most likely they were not viable seeds. I only use this method in the winter....otherwise I plant directly into my starting medium. Try it, it works pretty darn good.....

:wave:oh shoot, cannot add pics into edit...
here are some shoots of the plants started on the new moon.

soaked seeds in h202 for a half hour, innoculated the soil/soilless with ewc tea with added molasses (1 tblsp for gal tea) and 5 ml humic acid and allowed to cure for 72 hrs, germed the seeds in paper towel soaked in the ewc tea concoction. popped in 2 days, then placed gently into the soil mix (black gold organic potting soil, black gold seedling mix, G&B organic compost with Mycorrhizae.
they were 3" in 48 hours...and they are at 3 weeks in these pics.

Oh, the ambient temps were 60* and the rh was around 65 -70%.
Well water, never ph it, just don't consider it important with soil (ph'd the soil at 6.8).
hope this helps...could be the strain you picked out of the bag?

i'm not using any heat mat, as i would like to see some males develop from this to backX with the mother...also i was not saying this was the answer to your dilemna, just that it duplicates natural processes, which i try to emulate.
good link grocase
better luck to you B. Friendly
