DEA warns about Marajuanna

The DEA will never willingly give up the prosecution of cannabis offenses, their budget is very dependent upon the laws concerning the 'illegality' of the demon weed marijuana and the fear that incarceration brings. With being able to arrest and incarcerate for such minor things they have power, without that ability to incarcerate not so much. You have to get political, find out what your United States representatives and write and call, become the squeeky wheel that gets attention and tell them you vote and will vote against the person who won't listen to reason about Cannabis.

The DEA warns marijuana grow spots are the ‘new meth houses’
By Christopher Ingraham August 4 at 7:00 AM

The Drug Enforcement Administration is warning that marijuana grow houses in Colorado may be "the new meth houses."

A June report by the DEA's Denver division warns of potential dangers and annoyances posed by large-scale marijuana growing operations hidden in residential neighborhoods. These operations can be a nuisance to neighbors, prompting complaints about "strong odors, excessive noise from industrial air-conditioning units, blown electrical transformers, and heavy vehicle traffic," according to the DEA.

Beyond that, a big indoor marijuana operation requires lots of high-powered lighting, water and ventilation. People making these modifications in a haphazard or amateurish way risk doing serious damage to their homes.

Unlicensed residential operations are becoming a bigger problem, the DEA says, because of loopholes in Colorado's marijuana laws. Under the recreational marijuana measure passed by the state's voters in 2012, individuals are allowed to grow up to six marijuana plants at home. But, according to the DEA, a provision in the law allows people to "assist" others in their grows — essentially giving growers cover to produce a near-unlimited amount of plants and claim that they belong to other individuals.

There's also a provision in Colorado's medical marijuana law that allows so-called caregivers to grow up to 99 plants on behalf patients that they assist. According to the Colorado Department of Health, there are fewer than 2,000 people in the state authorized to grow between 50 and 99 plants.

The DEA report says that under the cover of these laws, unscrupulous growers can produce large quantities of marijuana to be shipped and sold out of state at high prices. But the report doesn't quantify how much weed is actually being shipped beyond Colorado's borders. Nationwide, marijuana smuggling offenses have been falling in the era of legal weed.

The report says that "since 2014, there has been a noticeable increase in organized networks of sophisticated residential grows in Colorado that are orchestrated and operated by drug trafficking organizations." The report says there are currently "hundreds" of these operations in Colorado.

These operations "harm communities, including residents, first responders, service providers, and the environment in multiple ways, from reduced quality of life, reduced property values, and physical harm from mold, fires, and even explosions," said DEA spokeswoman Barbara Carreno in an email. "When you add home-situated butane hash oil labs to the mix, residential marijuana grow and processing operations truly do have an impact on neighborhoods similar to that of home-based clandestine meth labs."

Marijuana advocates are skeptical of the DEA's claims.

In an email, Paul Armentano, deputy director of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML), said that "it may be argued that unregulated grow operations will become less prevalent under marijuana regulation, since cultivators of larger grows will be able to engage in legally regulated, commercial endeavors and because consumers will be able to legally purchase products at retail facilities."

In its report, the DEA paints a grim picture of Colorado's future: "The proliferation of large residential grows is taxing local police and fire departments, consuming power and water resources, and potentially affecting home values in communities throughout the state."

But NORML's Armentano says the DEA is employing "sensational and ineffective scare-tactics." He adds, "the DEA’s 'flat earth' position toward marijuana lacks credibility and is out of step with public and scientific consensus."

I love how they bitch about the nasty effects prohibition has on people. Free the cannabis and all their complaints go away.

I just read that this morning.

It absolutely blows my mind that people still believe the B.S. that govt. agencies are allowed to put forward as fact.

47 years ago, I was in high school and working nights at a shopping mall, pushing a broom and a dustpan.. I would smoke a doob before my Dad dropped me off for work...
One night, the old security guard, who walked around the mall with a .38 special on his hip, after the mall was closed, came up to me (we were the only ones there) and asked me if I had ever smoked marijuana. ( my hair was just starting to get a little bit shaggy)

I told him "no" and asked why he wanted to know..
He then told me that marijuana was killing young people across America...He told me that each puff of marijuana that a person took, destroyed 1 million brain cells....
(I didn't hold this against him, I knew that he was just another victim of U.S. govt. propaganda...)

As he was talking, I was trying to imagine how many of my brain cells had already been decimated, (not really, I knew he had been listening to bullshit) as I had been tokin' for about 6 months by now.

Just 2 and a half years later, I was in the hills of Jamaica, where I met lots of people who were in their 40's, 50's and 60's, who had been smoking marijuana all their adult lives...At that time I realized that even tho these people did not have an education, they were not retarded, nor were they suffering in any way from their brain cells having been destroyed...They were great people who I had some very interesting conversations with, and who taught me many things about their country, which led to me having a very great experience there in 1972..

Our govt. has, and continues, to spew bullshit, about a substance which gives you a buzz... When it is finally legalized in this country, it will only be because of the money, after the "correct" people are put in a position to profit from it...

They can all go to Hell.....

Sorry, I will climb down off my soapbox now...

It's becoming ever more evident that the elite wants to profit from it. With the Scotts-Miracle Gro deal with General Hydroponics, and now Gavita and Botanicare, they're consolidating their grip on the grow industry. It makes sense for the DEA to crack down on grow houses since they take profit away from the large professional grow operations run by folks with deep pockets.

And they continue to come after your plants. "legal" weed is only "legal" for the elite few who own the licenses. "They" won't stop until you can't grow anything at all.

Why do they keep bringing up water like it's an actual issue? The amount of water used by an indoor grow operation is nothing compared to people running sprinklers outside to keep their lawns green.

Ikr! :biglaugh: This whole pot being illegal is just stupid. The same cops who arrest ppl everyday for pot, will go home and watch Friday or Pineapple Express and laugh their ass off like there is nothing wrong with it....like its just naturally part of today's culture.

Because they're telling it to people who don't know shit about pot or growing, and they can scare the bejesus out of them.:tiphat:

Translation: Big Pharma doesn't like Cannabis. One of the reasons they call it Marijuana - that is the word used during the "Reefer Madness" part of history.

which seems to continue to the present day.

They could solve all their claimed problems

They could solve all their claimed problems

By recommending to de schedule it. Give the states in the south with good weather and plenty of water the opportunity to grow it outside and prices will drop. Allow supply to travel between states legally and indoor grows will be few and far between.
