Copenhagen Considering Decriminalization of Cannabis

After years of police cracking down on sales of marijuana and hashish in Copenhagen, particularly Christiania, the Danish are now considering decriminalizing cannabis. It seems the crackdown has caused the sale of cannabis to now be relegated to gangs whose recent violence has caused an uproar in Denmark.

Before the crackdown there was ZERO violence related to cannabis which was sold by hippies within the alternative enclave of Christiania. Now sales have moved out into the city feeding the upsurge in gang violence.

The Danes are considering adopting the Dutch coffeeshop model, but there is still a lot of resistance among the political parties.

Yeah unfortunately this won't happen with our current government.
Cities don't have the authority to take such an initiative and would have to get a permission from the government - that's not going to happen.

Still - it's a nice symbolic gesture.
