I have some 630 dual bulb fixtures at another place I can’t show and I have run double ended 630 here and I think they are alright but I really like the vertically mounted 315 cmh fixtures out of all the cmh choices. The hlg 550s are very comparable to 2 315s sitting side by side. That being said, in the new buildout I will go with double ended hps supplemented with a few 315 bare bulbs hanging in the aisle. The cmh are my favorite for veg. The size of the space you have to light would be a big part of choosing what lights to run.

Starting from scratch is a good place to be with as much information that is available. It’s all environment then genetics. Let me know if I can help.

"Alot has changed in the way of lighting and thats what im struggling to make a decision on. "

I really enjoyed reading the whole thing. Nice looking plants!
Sinister, try since the 90's for me!
So much information now, and the access to equipment, and seeds!!? That blows my mind! We never could find good seed. Now it is a true embarrassmet of riches.

I just started my grow a week ago, and making a choice of seeds was exhausting. If I chose all I wanted I'd have to build a new house. Hell, picking a soil was a huge undertaking.
I just hope I can make it through this 1st grow without too many F ups.
Keep up the good work

Sinister, if I was trying to cover a 5x5 I would get an air cooled double ended hps fixture and let it be your exhaust. Take out the glass and keep the tops of the plants 36” away from the light. I think it gets you a gram a watt no problem.

Thank you. Ill have to check those out. Hopefully they are more energy efficient then the old 1k mag ballast. My electric bill has been way higher then I was expecting. That is part of why I liked the dual 630 cmh. It draws almost half the amps of my 1k hps.

Welcome dankwolf, I always enjoy your trees.

Sinister, you shouldn’t see much difference in power costs between the two. Where I am it’s about $40-50 a month to run 1k hps light in flower. You might save $20 running a 630 but you will give up close to a pound of flower every two months. If your power bill is high it might be the ac or the dehumidifier that might be more cost saving to upgrade. The 630 does give you a little more space to stretch. Plants can get within 10 inches of those 315 bulbs with no discoloring where the double ended 1k hps will bleach anything within 2 feet.

Don’t get those fiskars with the anodized gold coating, shit flakes off soon, garbage. I buy a lot of fiskars. You can get new springs for 20 cents on this here internet. Tomorrow it’s all day bucking outdoor, I made some manual mother buckers, hope to get through 600. It takes a team.

spring snapback fiskars and a jar of 91 iso to keep the spares in. They stay sharp unless you try to scrape the resin off. When they start to show just switch them out and rinse off the new pair. Just don't store them in there as I bet the parts would start to deteriorate esp the grips.

Screw it just go Everclear and when you are done trimming just evap the ethanol wash and enjoy. Use as little alcohol as possible you can use a towel to get the stuck on leftovers. Problem is when shit is super sticky your gonna need like a 12 pack of skizzers or its just gonna be stickfest.

Chimpmints about to get chopped. It’s time for a reset in every room just waiting on cooler weather. Running power to the new building this week. I have the fcc and bb getting ready, this time I am going to load the cloner before flower and have the reveg for backup. Looking for the frosted cherry cookies pheno I missed and a Bruce banner male. It’s time for a big clean.

They are a little tall again for the reset but it’s frosted cherry cookies on the left and Bruce banner on the right, all seed plants. The other room, it’s gorilla bubble on the left and Cindy on the right a couple weeks in.

Got to report, the portable press showed up and I am very satisfied. Well built and should work out great just waiting on a pump and we will give it a squish test. The tilt is such a bonus for easy collection I already know and this version is light enough it will be fast and easy, probably as heavy as 2/3 of 5 gal bucket of water, you know.
