Hello people of knowledge. Ive been growing for about a year and love it. Very theraputic. Ive read countless articles on here, upgraded my grow space, but am still getting the same results. There is really two problems. EVERY grow I get what I think is rust. Looks like rust. It starts out looking like a small patch of shiny area where a slug might have crawled over and left his slime. Small though. It soon darkens to a rusty dark coulor. It spreads very quickly and causes the leaf to die. Here is a pic...

Im growing in Sunshine mix #4 with a little extra perlite and a very small amount of EWC. Like 2 cups in 1.75 gallons of mix.
The plants are about 3 weeks to a month old. I am feeding at 6.3-6.5 ph with botanicare grow and liquid karma. Could this be calcium? I am not feeding any extra cal/mag and never have. I thought with botanicare organics I didnt have to. Point is Im fed up. I just need some help. Its not like I can bring joe-blow guy over to diagnose my plants, eh? Ive got more beans if this dosent work out, Im just worried its rust disease. My temps are 68-74 in veg and around 30 % rh. I alson have good venting. A wise man once told me that Rust disease can live in some old apple trees, and my window which i draw air into is right next to a GIANT apple tree...Any truth to this???? Another problem is lots of purpling.....

Any other info you need let me know...
If anyone has any FOOL PROOF feeding routines they could give me id appreciate. Ive got all the goodies....PH tester digital, ferts, etc, just things aint workin out.....

Stab in da dark, or walk in da park?

Stab in da dark, or walk in da park?

Just browsed your recent posts, did not see a filled out troubleshooting sticky.
You just can't get good help without it.

Fer instance, what kind of water do you start with?
You'll get bad advice about amending from folks that do not know that.

Give any of us ENOUGH information and you may get quality help.:)

Aloha.

How long has this problem been going on? All grow
What STRAIN are you growing? Lemon Skunk/ AMS
What was the establishing technique? (seed or clone?) Seed
What is the age of your plants? 3 weeks-1 month
How long have they been in the soil mixture they are in now? 10 days
Were they in the same mixture when they were seedlings/smaller plant? If not, what mixture were they in before? Same mixture but smaller pots.
How Tall are the plants? 4-6 inches
What PHASE (seedling, vegetative or flower) are the plants in? Seedlings have purpling, others in veg have spots
What Technique are you using? (SOG, SCROG etc)
What size pots are you using? (Include how many subjects to pot) .5 gallon maybe 1 per
What substrate/medium are you using? What brand of soil mixture are you using?(percentage of perlite, vermiculite...etc?) Sunshine mix #4 with a little extra perlite and a little bit of EWC (not much)
What brand Nutrient's are you using? Botanicare grow and liquid karma
How much of each nutrient are you using with how much water? *Knowing the brand is very helpful* Seedling dosage 1 tsp pergalon each, and veg 1 tbs per gallon each.
How often are you feeding? From 2 weeks old I fed the seedling dosage and moved up to veg dosage last few waters.
If flowering, when did you switch over to using Bloom nutrients?
What order are you mixing your nutrients? (example: veg nutes 1st, bloom 2nd ect)Only veg for now
What is the TDS/EC/PPM of your nutrients used? Botanicare Progrow is 3-2-4 with a calcium 1% and magnesium .5% liquid Karma not quite sure right now, get back to ya...Its kelp.
What is the pH of the "RUN-OFF"? Yikes! havent checked.
How often are you testing pH/ppm/EC/TDS? Every time
What method of pH test was administered? Using Strips? pH pen? Digital meter
How often are you watering? like every 3 -4 days
When was your last feeding and how often are you feeding? Yesterday, every water.
What size bulb are you using? Seedlings in 100w cfl ... 3 weeks to a month with a 250w MH
How old is your bulbs? 1 year old, never used. cfls are brand new 65oo k cool white
What is the distance to the canopy?
seedlings 8 inches'ish

In the 250w mh side their about 10 -12 inches
What is your RH Factor? (Relative Humidity)30-40% usually sometimes 50-55%
What is the canopy temperature? 69-74
What is the Day/Night Temp? (Include fluctuation range)24/0 lights on
What is the current Air Flow? (cfm etc.) Vortex 4'' 177cfm with controller
Tell us about your ventilation, intake exhaust and when its running and not running ? Cabinet grow... externally mounted vortex pulls air through utility room( s et up for scrubber but not packed with carbon right now) from both veg and larger Flower side. Passive intakes on bottom provide good airflow . Internally just a 80 mm PC fan for breeze

Is the fan blowing directly at plants? No
Is the grow substrate constantly wet or moist? Usually, Ive been letting it completely dry out last 2 times. Guilty though.
Is your water HARD or SOFT? Not sure, pretty sure soft?
What water are you using? Reverse Osmosis (RO)? Tap? Bottled? Well water? Distilled? Mineral Water?
If using tap water, what is the ppm/EC/TDS of the water right out of the tap?(Only if you have a tds pen)
If using RO,Distilled, mineral water, what is the ppm/EC/TDS without any additives?(Only if you have a tds pen)
Are you using water from a water softener? Not sure
Has plant been recently pruned, cloned or pinched? Older ones topped a week ago
Have any pest chemicals been used? If so what and when?
Are plant's infected with pest's?no

It looks to be Potassium def. There are several things that can cause it to be locked out. I have had it happen from the water being to hard and the salts blocked her from absorbing it. I would try flushing it with straight PH water every few waterings..

the purpling looks to be Phosphorus lock out...the rust generally tends to be a cal/mag difficency...im sure the "experts" will chime in further!

Sorry to hear about your troubles first off. The feed shedule seems a bit much and by looking at the dirt and stained perlite in the pic they could use a good flushing. If you are feeding each watering maybe cut it back some? Purpling is usually P related, those rust spots could be from too much salts in the mix. Plants tend to like a little rest also, 24/0 is not my choice maybe give them 2hrs minimum of dark to develope roots. That is a sweet cab set-up and I am glad that you found a fun and rewarding hobby! NS
