Calcium deficiency?

Hello all,

I've got some fruity chronic juice at around 6 weeks veg some of which are not looking 100%. There is a bit of yellowing, but my main concern is that they are not growing as quickly as my last strain..

The leaves are doing a fair amount of drooping and a bit of twisting..

I recently set them up on drippers, previously they were on a tray being hand watered DTW.

They are being fed with h&g nutes, around 650 tds (.5 scale) but I believed they were deficient so I bumped it to 900 and added calmag at half strength.

Please take a look at these photos and tell me what you think...

Thanks,
Shred

Should mention, the room is air conditioned.. Around 75. Humidity is low however it hasn't been a problem in the past..

They are being grown with 4 vertical hps.

I 'm wondering how there can be a deficiency of Ca when you've added Calmag ... ?

to my eyes ... the yellowing between the veins points to Mg deficiency. but Calmag SHOULD have cured that too.

so I think it has to be a pH issue locking out Mg uptake.

the relationship between amounts of Ca and Mg in the growing medium has to be balanced because too much Ca will affect uptake of Mg AND vice versa. google Mulders Chart and you will see what I mean.

also look at a chart to see how pH affects the uptake of either of these minerals. the relationship between BOTH these minerals as shown in Mulders Chart will be affected if pH is out.

a sure way of discovering if there is a Mg shortage (or Ca/Mg imbalance) is to foliar spray with 1/4 teaspoon of Epsom Salts dissolved in 1 litre of water. if there is an Mg imbalance the spray will fix it within 24 hrs. however this is a short term fix and you'll still have to discover how the shortage came about in the first place.

hope this helps. Cheers!

Sorry I was a little unclear...

Those pics were taken just before I changed the nutrient solution.. Before they actually had gotten fed with the calmag. I will try the Epsom spray this evening, though..

Thanks,

Shred

Hi Shred ,i found when humidity is low plants use less nutes and more water, causing over fert ,your plants look good,if it was me i would work on raising humidity ...:) Bud

OP...What is your run off like? I've been growing coco for a long time and run off is key. You need to keep the salts down among other particulars. Over the years I have seen the results of just about every scenario out there either by design or my own fuck up. Nowadays I always water to 20-25% runoff. A lot of peeps around here go for 10% or so run off...but I found a greater amount of run off helps with the gear I work with. I also use and recommend Drip Clean.

Another thing...it's important not to let the coco dry out....it is even more important not to keep the coco overly saturated as well.

Whats the ph of your mix? Twisting leaves is a sign of ph problems...

Thanks everyone!!

I believe it was indeed hat the soil was drying out due to my drippers clogging and my lack of vigilance.

I'm watering 2x a day now (lame, I know) until next week when they move into the flower room.

They seemed to have made their bounce back since the switch to hand watering. They are in saucers but lifted up a bit so they're not sitting in runoff. I water until there is just a bit of runoff, perhaps 10%, I do use drip clean at 1ml/gal to help mitigate salts in the media.

Here's a group shot

Also, the reason humidity was so low is because my two whole house humidifiers would run out in 8 hrs flat, much before I could come over to refill. I've since put in float valves and a rubbermaid res on the roof to keep them filled but the evaporative type humidifiers only get the room to 40% (better than 16%). I wonder if I slowed down my fan if that would help... It doing about an exchange every minute.. A bit excessive

Slowing down the air exchange and lots of runoff will help fo sure, until plants are honin and transpiring then you ll prob need a dehuey for flower, keep us posted on your babies...:tiphat: Bud.

Here they go a few days later ... Growth is quite optimal about an inch a day.

Flushed last night because it looks like they were getting a bit over fed.. I'll get pics of that later today to get some opinions..
