high VooDoo, while i agree with you that you can
grow some very nice bud with standard CFL's, and
i even agree with you that they are cheaper than
PL-L's, some of what you say is a bit misleading to
the noobs.
first, the workhorse 8 is rated at 220watts max, and
if you run it at max, you void the warranty so yeah,
you can only run 3x 55watters for a total of 165watts.
...but, if you use 50watters, you can run 4 giving you
200watts. plus, they are sold in several different temps,
3000K, 3500K, 4100K, 5000K and 6400K so at least
as versatile as standard CFL's.
...and, lol, the 50's are only $9.95, still more than the
standard bulbs but then, price shouldn't be the primary
consideration when choosing your grow equipment, shop
for price alone and you get cheap.
...for me, the greatest advantages to the PL-L's are
that they run physically much cooler than standard
bulbs, having the ballast removed from the grow as
it is, and the shape of the bulb which gives a much
more even distribution over the canopy.
they are also great in low-headroom situations.
anyway, here's a link where the numbers i quoted can
be found.

like i said, i mean no disrespect, just wanted to clarify is all.
peace, SOG
btw, here is a pic of my old CFL set-up, just a vanity
bar with 8 bulbs, mostly 23's and 26's and i grew with
these for over a year so i'm familiar with how they work.
