so im new to this whole thing completely. i know how to use a computer and all the basics but its kinda like my iphone, there's so much untapped potential if i only new all the secrets haha.

my main goal was to build something that could handle D3. im not a big computer gamer but i have always been a fan of diablo from the beginning. when d2 came out i had a compaq that had a 3gig hard drive lol. sure enough, it couldnt handle it lol. i know im a few weeks behind on the launch date and im many levels behind my buddies at work so i have some major catching up to do!

anyways i went as nice as i could for as cheap as i could. got a decent graphics card, a SSD and a decent processor im my price range all goin into a in win micro atx dragon slayer case which will all be lit up GREEN since we are all on the green team here at icmag haha.

i do not know a whole lot about computers as of yet but im hoping with this build something will spark my interest and the knowledge will flow.

here's a pic of the case lit up in blue i found online

Building your own is a fun project. You learn allot about the different peripherals you can get...I have built a few myself. Put quality components where you need them. Processor,Ram,SSD,Monitor,Ethernet card/wireless wifi, a good game controller. Anything you save put it into a upgraded component like video card. Good Luck :)

What motherboard are you looking to go with? I'm building one also and I'm using a AsRock X79 Extreme9 motherboard, with the G. Skill Ripjaws Z series 64GB Memory card. And I'm putting it in a Carsair Obsidian Series 800D Case

mine is an asrock as well but just a cheap intel board. the buddy that helped me with the build is EXTREMELY budget mindful and he didnt seem to keen on my spending extra money lol. he's probably right in my case. its my first and i dont do anything too crazy with my pc's. icmag, d3 and the occasional cruise on pornhub haha
god bless the internet

Why on earth would you ever need 64gigs of ram? Did I read that right?

And building computers is fun, basically an adult lego kit.

Ever heard of a RAM disk? There is software capable of turning your RAM into usable disk space which is several times faster than even SSD's. Of course to retain that data in-between boots you need to save it to a more permanent storage medium such as a HDD or SSD.

My first PC I built took me about 3-4 hours of carefully making sure everything was right. After 20 minutes of inspection I was ready to press the button. So I held my breath and did it. And nothing happened. I just sat in disappointment for like 2 minutes, staring and thinking I had a defective part. Then it clicked, I forgot to switch the power supply on. :biglaugh:

nice... I can't say I haven't done that HAHAHA!! one time when I had to take out the mobo I plugged a multi card reader into the wrong header.. stoner moment...

Building your own computer is always sort of magical, even if building computers is second nature to you.

How is your computer running? Any problems with the hardware?

I've been upgrading my computer here and there for about 5 years and it's still going strong. I don't play as many video games as I used to, but I think I need to build a new computer next year. I just bought new hard drives on black friday! These two put me up to 6 terabytes of storage space...3.5 of it used up. I'm a bit of a digital hoarder. I promise there are only about 50 gigs of porn...and it's all high quality. haha.

Iye matie haha I concur Its kind of like the feeling "ITS ALIVE HAHAHA!!" she runs like a champ I did have several problems at first but a few RMA's and a service pack later everything's running like a champ. I don't like to be to far behind technology either I would like upgrade to usb 3.0 and upgrade my boot drive to ssd, but that would cost hella money haha..
nice come up on bf ..I was thinking about doing that, but I went for broke on turkey day maybe next year..peace :smoke:

Black friday is a painful day to be broke. I wonder if there are more deals on grow equipment around black friday or around 420. haha.

My friend won't stfu about his SSD drive. I might beat him to death with it. =)

A lot of joy doing this though the years. Just lost an edit box I built over 12 years ago - abit mb socket a in a leanneli case with a hot 2 gigs of ram - I think I had almost 2 grand in it at the time .Can't help but want to cry as I think of all the money I handed mr gates though the years. Why did I never consider linux as I was doing multiboot configs back then ?

mobo: MSI H97 PC Mate
CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2Ghz Box
memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X DDR3 1600 PC3-12800 8GB 2x4GB CL7

Looks like a solid build. This for gaming? What kind of monitor(s) are you running?
No SSD? The crucial mx100's are pretty cheap, about 50 cents a gig, and they're solid in performance.
I think you can run intel smart response technology (srt) to run an ssd cache: get a 64gig or smaller ssd, and can set that up with an hdd for a combined/hybrid drive (with the storage of the hdd, but the fast response of an ssd for frequently accessed programs).
