Yes if a plant sits in heavy clay soil that lacks drainage it will most likely produce problems. When you mix heavy soil with excess nutrients then the outcome is usually mold. To improve clay drainage and lower the pH one can use peat moss to improve drainage and pH. 😎

I'm hoping that wild peas makes a good mixer. Because that's what I have a lot of !

i.e. the dried out long viney plants that are left over after they shed/fling all their seeds.

I collect it into piles, because I figure it has nutritional value.

When I learned hot composting, the better of the 2 piles was loaded with pea plants, because one of the people in that group pulled up a few hundred pounds of pea plants.
