No room for middle ground in politics these days. The ultra rich - the 1% - pick the main candidates and let the little people argue their lives away to zero effect. A grass roots candidate has absolutely no chance at the national level.

More insults because somebody doesn't agree with you. Hitler would be impressed.

You guys are pretty sad. Makes sense Bernie is who you people are voting for. Remember..... If somebody doesn't agree with you, call them names, discredit everything they do, and force your opinion on them. America at it's finest.....Right guys?

Not at all. I'm deeply sympathetic. You need help, although it's unlikely that you'll have the kind of epiphany required to see that.

You clearly believe in things that simply aren't true. Take decriminalization vs legalization, or example. They're not the same. With decrim, people can be fined in a progressive way for repeat offenses & even jailed. Growing & selling cannabis remains illegal. OTOH, Legalization provides for a legal product, seed to consumer like beer or tobacco. The difference is obvious.

I knew an old guy who went to his grave firmly believing that Joe McCarthy was right. It twisted his perspective for 40 years. It made him miserable & occasionally insufferable as well.

It's what happens when people believe before they think, then seek justification for emotional reasons because they're afraid of being wrong, afraid to embrace uncertainty. It's an oft exploited aspect of human nature.

I'm not sure that's really true entirely. Trump has enormous grass roots support & might be the Repub nominee, so be careful what you wish for.

He is, nonetheless, among the ultra rich, more accurately referred to as the .01%. We will never entirely remove their influence in our lives & in politics. The best we can do is to force compromise & transparency through the institution of democracy which they constantly attempt to bend to their will with the tried & true methods of propaganda. The more they can tear down the Govt of the People the more they get their way. Smalller govt for them is more convenient govt, that's all, govt less able to interfere with their greed & lust for power. It's a lot easier in places that don't practice democracy at all.

Odd that so many would want to live in a total welfare state, have no privacy and be property of said state. Then beyond that deride those who would prefer not to live as property of the state! Wannabe parasites?

Nobody said that. You construct a straw man to argue against.

Just saw a story on Yahoo that shows Trump's lead has grown and is leading by a fairly large percentage over the others in the Republican field. The results were showing 3 separate polls.

Dunno about that. Legalization has made a substantial difference in a lot of ways here in CO, particularly for personal growers. It's a whole different headset. The worst case scenario is that I have to show the cops our legal grow then show 'em the way out.

It's also a lot more attractive for occasional users- nice retail environments, decent selection, knowledgeable staff. In some shops you can put it on your Visa card. It's becoming normal, for lack of a better word. Otherwise law abiding cannabis users get the respect they deserve.

Legalization at the federal level would entail even more respect, force changes in drug testing for safety sensitive jobs. Urinalysis for cannabis metabolites would become an untenable methodology as it merely identifies law breakers rather than actual intoxication.

Young Americans embrace socialism far more than past generations, boosting Bernie San

Young Americans embrace socialism far more than past generations, boosting Bernie San

Bernie Sanders is a gruff, 74-year-old senator from a small state. He doesn't exactly exude charisma. Yet young voters are drawn to him, making the career politician a serious challenger for the Democratic nomination for president.

Part of the reason for his popularity: he embraces socialism.

Another reason is that he won't start any stupid wars.

Another reason is that, as president, he only appoint Supreme Court Justices who will overturn Citizen's United decision.

Another reason is that he will oppose "free" trade deals that ship jobs overseas.

And another reason is that he will LEGALIZE WEED!!

It was inevitable that this thread would break down into a Left versus Right brawl, but the important thing is, a viable presidential candidate came out for legalization, right out in the bright light of the media.

Bernie Sanders Wins Readers’ Poll for TIME Person of the Year

Bernie Sanders Wins Readers’ Poll for TIME Person of the Year

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has won the online readers’ poll for TIME Person of the Year, topping some of the world’s best-known politicians, activists and cultural figures as the most influential person of 2015 among those who voted.

The Vermont Senator won with a little more than 10% of the vote when the poll closed Sunday at midnight. That’s well ahead of Pakistani girls’ education activist Malala Yousafzai, who was in second place at 5.2%, and Pope Francis, TIME’s 2013 Person of the Year, who finished third with 3.7%.

Sanders also placed far ahead President Obama (3.5%) and ahead other 2016 candidates, including Republican Donald Trump (1.8%) and Democratic rival Hillary Clinton (1.4%).

I wouldn't get too excited about that. Because: 1) Time will make the final choice, and 2) Internet polling seems skewed very much left.

However, in my random internet wandering I fairly regularly run across Bernie web sites without looking. I have yet to run across any other candidate's web propaganda. Bernie owns the internet in my opinion, which can't hurt.
