Good Day,
Just made my first temple ball from 37.85g of 45-159u cured resin bubble from the previous years harvests trim. It is a mixed strain, full spectrum hash. Vacuum sealed and off to age for at least 3 months. Bubble was air dried for 12 days before press/roll. Excited to lace some spliffs with this, more to come. Freeze dryer on the way 👽

Looks great, Frenchy would approve.

14 days air dry is what is recommended, but weirdly I find when I make bubble it’s dry and smokeable in 24 hrs when air dried broken up as fine as possible.

It never stays around long enough to dry for 14 days so I’ve no idea if I’m missing out, but do you notice an improvement in smoke quality with a longer dry?

Peace

Up until this point I have been much like yourself and start hitting it after a day or two. This was run specifically to make this temple ball and age for a while so I made sure it was dry-dry before pressing as to avoid any mold growth under long term aging.

Thanks for the kind words and good to be back around these forums after a hiatus. I will try to post regularly.

As a home made hash newbie (despite my nic):

Does curing also improve the high?
Or just the taste?
It changes the taste for sure although if it improves would be arguable for some people I guess. In my opinion it does very much so. With cured hash, fresh fruity and sour tastes mostly disappear and spicier, "hashier" tastes appear. There are no weed strains in my experience that taste like a good aged and worked hash. In fact just recently the terpene "hashishene" is being talked about as the result of the degradation or oxidation of myrcene. So hash taste is only present in hash or very well cured weed.

The effect does absolutely improve, that would be hard to argue. In most countries with hash making tradition, and where obtaining a quality effect is the main goal, it is common to let the resin cure before making the hash, and also after. Once the hash is made, the outer layer oxidizes providing protection for the inner resin to cure further. In some places they work and press the hash, then don't even touch it until it has been curing for years.

A good cure improves the high in buds as well. Takes the edge off and makes it dreamier and mellower.

The trend to use "fresh frozen" weed to make hash and preserve the most volatile terpenes is a new trend that has spread since the legalization in the US. In traditional hash making countries they cure their hash. Mediterranean countries and middle easter countries have centuries/millennia of hashish tradition and wisdom that can't be beat by some 25 year old with a backwards cap 🤣

Just my opinion of course.

like the oxidized black hashes as much as if not more than the fresh frozen

You are not alone. When you think about it, fresh frozen is like scissor hash. It gets you high but the high is spikey and not the high you want when you are trimming a plant . . . somehow. Now, ff hash - when made properly has gobs of taste, but the high just doesn't crank my crank.

Probably because the fresh frozen boys chop at 40 days to keep the colour correct but lack mature trichs for full effect.

Peace
