and the Darkness shall reign

Ok....here's what I have been thinking...there are a lot of very experienced growers here...I want to do, is put a rest to the issue of giving plants extra darkness before the cut....So what I plan to do is as folllows:

harvest 3 plants without any additional darkness
harvest 3 plants with 24 hours of darkness
etc...all the way until let's say 72 hours....

going to take a look at the tric's of each plant that was taken down...also going to do a smoke test.

I always gave my plants 48 hours of darkness....but other's give them 24, 72 etc.....let's try and come to a consesus

I think if just a couple of other people did this, and reported their results it would be very informative....

If this has already been done....great...please enlighten(or endarken?) me....if not....

You seem to be well informed and from what I have seen so far you are interested in finding the truth.

I didn't discover this darkness period first but I have been recommending it for years. I always figured 48-72 hours was best but my observations probably aren't very scientific. My antedotal observations have been repeated by many who observe the same thing. Continued resin production after the light is discontinued.

Never having tested thc content or using clones to demonstrate this effect I welcome your experiment. Recently the theory of darkness has come into question and scrutiny world wide in the cannabis community. My recent article in Heads talks about this effect seen by many.

My feeling is that it works quite well with some strains if timed properly. There have been studies done that didn't show increased thc over plants left in the light but under some circumstances that would be true. For example when plants aren't really done yet this would be the case I am sure.

What I would like to see is if the frosting we see in darkness is a real increase in thc or not. It depends on how you measure thc doesn't it? We need to agree on some things before we make this endeavor. Are we just going to look at the albedo of the bud up close or measure thc. What if thc does increase in the dark? Does it matter if it also happens in the light or not?

I would think that once a plant is out of the light that any gains would be worth it because what is lost? BOG ;)
