No.

The AK-47 is a Russian assault rifle. The A stands for avtomat which means automatic as the rifle is. The K stands for Kalashnikov after Mikhail Kalashnikov who designed the weapon. The 47 comes because the weapon is originally from 1947.

The AK-47 cannabis strain from Serious Seeds has been named after the rifle because it is considered a "one hit wonder". However, a number of online sources state the linage to be Colombian x Mexican x Thai x Afghani. So there is a bit of "affy" in there, maybe even from the Hindu Kush mountain region, but surely that has very little if anything to do with the name.

But I'm just talking out of my ass here and if you want to know for sure send Serious Seeds an email.

Now By 2009 Standard? How does the AK-47 Measure up? Potency being THE main Factor and common denominator.

AK will be a very potent Indica if u aren't used to it or low tolerance9some people whitey on it,apparently)but I don't find it works for long personally...but these things are more to do with the person than the strain often...otherwise we'd all grow the same plant...lol.
Flavour wise I only ever liked the cherry pheno, otherwise just sweetly acrid, kushy(Not in the L.A. sense, like a HK)and blandish really. Bloody vigorous and resistant to stress though... JBo

It is the strongest smelling plant in my garden it is producing the biggest buds and it is drenched in trichromes. the leaf structure is definantly predominantly afgahnica.

AK-47 is one of the best strains available in seed form period. Is it as good as today's 'elites', no, but not all of us have access to elites.

Since the AK-47 is 75% "sativa", I often wonder why folks refer to it as an "indica". My AK is very sativa, but flowers in 53 days. I would imagine that there could be "indica" phenos out there, but I have never seen them.

I picked up some AK a little while ago.

Great strain...easy to grow, very little stretch (if thats what you are looking for).

I ended up with two different pheno's...a fruity indica (the best one)...and a more skunky (for lack of better definition) sativa leaning pheno.

Both grow great...but the fruity indica smell, buzz and taste are hands down better than the other.

I have an AK-47 that is very sativa .Very up high , I make sure not to smoke any too late at night and I know some people who prefer not to smoke it at all . It is one of the most Hazy smelling and tasting strains I've ever had and looks like it has no place in an indoor grow room , though it finishes in about 9 weeks and yields pretty good too .

How long ago did you acquire them? I've heard some bad reports on AK recently. I'm really hoping they're inaccurate. AK-47 is one of my favorites.

I love my cut of AK47, but I do find they are very prone to powdery mildew - other than that they are a breeze to grow. Just a little love and respect and they are great every time.
