And into the cesspool we go. Wow. Kind of smells like shit around here too.

You sure that smell is not coming from your computer Hoosier?

Why do I want to trust BP...they don't give a shit about the lives of people 20 years from now. This is what the govt is here for, it's akin to a terrorist attack. Not sure how an oil spill is any different, at least one of this magnitude.

i'm glad it looks like they're gonna be able to plug this shit up.

i think these guys need more than a 75 million $ kick in the nuts to make up for this. the verdict is still out on how it's gonna affect louisiana's industry, health and culture. i suspect 75 mill is only gonna make a dent in it.

Maybe Obama will come through in the end with his true skills and leadership ability by 'organizing the community' into doing a hay bale chain gang for that brilliant idea of tossing hay into the water to absorb the oil that has been circulating.

Obama had nothing to say about this oil disaster for 8 days, but somehow when a law professor in Massachusetts get's hassled by a cop while attempting to suspiciously enter his own home gets a reply from the President of the United States in 8 hours after the fact.

So let's see. National disaster that will affect millions = 8 days to reply. Local matter involving a professor and police officer = 8 hours to reply.

Priorities are obvious.

Yup. Him and Bush are the best of pals. :) Republicans and Democrats are one in the same.

Ya'll do know that Obama is related to Dick Cheney don't y'all? Cheney that owned Haliburton that planted the failed cement job.

That's just probably some crazy coincidence though. No way that the American Aristocracy could be protecting their blood line as all world Aristocracies have in the past. Damnit! I need to go remove my head from my conspiracy theory ass again. :biglaugh:

Washington Post

At least that was the stunning announcement made yesterday by Lynne Cheney, who said that the very white vice president from Wyoming is in fact the eighth cousin of Obama, the Senate's only African American member. She said she discovered the link, traced back to a Huguenot who figured prominently in Maryland history, while researching her latest book.
Those guys would never think of anything like that though. America doesn't have an aristocracy, after all. Or does it?

Didn't the DOD make a statement they had no measures to help in the Gulf? Manpower might help but where do you get them with two wars and demands for NG in Arizona? We're spread pretty thin.

I agree it was a failure of leadership. Going back to the start of deregulation and through today. The MMS is an 80s baby. Carved from an old agency that applied the same clean air and water regulations that govern our rivers and other environmental standards. Big Oil got the big break. Since then, government regulation is watered down with gifts (and even jobs) to regulators. Private business his bribed their way to this disaster and they've taken us along with it. Fuck a bunch of regulation so porous it no longer works. Separating the agency into parts sounds like a start. Folks that collect royalties shouldn't be the safety police.

We used to share the Gulf with fishing, oil, and tourism. Now a major player has ferked up the show for the rest of the Gulf economy and beyond. We have to get back where we can all use the Gulf, and that includes oil until we change our way of thinking. Big Oil will just have to meet standards already in place and any new measures needed to avoid spills like this.

We didn't know Transocean pulled chunks of the annular from the mud until May 16th. That's the same day we found out about the three concrete plugs. And skirting the mud to seawater process with only two concrete plugs, releasing the methane that blew the generators and then the show.

Obama could have recognized a political victory by helping coordinate efforts from the coast. Carvill said, Clinton would have been down there with a wet suit on. That was a joke but Clinton would have recognized the opportunity to look good. But IMO, wouldn't have been a catalyst for something like this. We depended on big oil for too long and for too much.

BP's cost in the disaster response is approaching a billion. That's a fraction of their first quarter profits alone. If new regulations cause companies to lose a few billion to straighten up and fly right, the Gulf might return to fishing and tourism. But with a 20 mile slick (as well as the possibility for lots more) approaching the shoreline, things don't look so hot.

Republicans very well may be on shallow inspection, but conservatives however, are not.

To break this down a little further. "Republicans," as in the Neo-Con establishment are fascists IMO. Neo-Liberals constitute a somewhat Marxist philosophy IMO. Marx said that having a central bank is 90% of enforcing Communism amongst a society. Central Banks put the power to control the economy in the hands of a few people. It's been like that here since 1913. Either way, when arguing for the "left" or "right" in the context of Republican and Democrats in America one is arguing for some form of totalitarian rule. The idea of a true Republic falls somewhere just to the left of Anarchy. Is that system viable today? :dunno: In the end all politics is local if you ask me.

In the true spectrum of political philosophy, the far right is total Anarchy and the far left is totalitarian rule by a central authority. Idealism vs Realism is the proper academic breakdown and there is credence in both arguments. We are told that Republicans are the far right and Democrats are the far left, when the policies of both dating back 100+ years clearly are tuned to centralized control of all aspects of society exposing them to be philosophically to the left.

Fascism, Socialism, or Communism. Either way you slice it, it's an argument for totalitarian rule by a central authority. It's collectivism. The basic premise of which this country was founded against.

You know Gramps, reading that makes me think about your mentioning the media is a scheme for us to fight amongst ourselves instead of taking on the issues.

I see Capitalism as the owner of the scheme. They've bought and paid for DC, flooded the airwaves with tales fascism, socialism, communism and the worst one (they claim) progressive ism.

That's the media I think is tearing us apart, not the news which is basically a media celeb reading the AP, Reuters, McClatchy....real journalists that uncover some of the scoops (some to late to make any difference.)

It's the opinions and IMO, revisionist history that scraps Jefferson and promotes McCarthy to Texas school books. IMO, all part of the scam to keep us dumb and dumber.

Dumb folks are more likely to hate each other over their differences. Intelligence recognizes diversity. I'm glad I get some intelligent diversity from exchanges with folks like you.

Even dumber folks place the unwarranted hate label on others. Not smart enough to realize that they are doing nothing but perpetuating bigotry, hatred, and racism. Which makes them what....?

I want to know something..
What the fuck does "recognizing diversity" mean, and how the fuck does it have anything to do with anything? I think it's high time you folks start explaining these buzzwords you use.

I'm sure you'll find a name, hoosier. As far as Rand Paul, I don't have to call him anything. Recognizing his flip flop media tour comments is enough to look at him with both eyes open and recognize he's likely to put that foot in his mouth again.

Well, just read that sentence a few times and realize you ain't got it.

I think it's high time you folks start explaining these buzzwords you use.

Nobody's talking about something you don't understand. It's something you personally reject.

A hoosier?!

I bet you really think that a warranted hate lable doesn't perpetuate bigotry, HATRED, and racism.

You thrive on differences.

I am absolutely positive.
My analysis is spot on.
