I am actually running a 600w and 400w focused in a 3.5'x 3.5' area in a closet is 3.5'x7'x 8'. So I have lots of area to disperse my heat. I just have some big wide bat wings that I run. with a osculating fan blowing between the bulbs and the plants. With air being drawn out from under the house and exhausted to the attic I can hit the mid 80's in the winter and upper ninety's in the summer.

I've heard that 600W is the most economical in terms of output versus cost and heat versus output. However I use a 600W myself (in 1.2x.1.2x2M space) so might be a bit biased

400 or 600 what is you circuit is it dedicated to the grow or do you have the usualy things like the tv in the room and alarm clock radio phones etc. hooked tot he circuit as well along with the blower for your light and propably a fan for atmosphere exhaust and the light its self and maybe a heater for night time ( even the smallest ones are 1500 watts)

see you could run a 1000 watter as far as heat control and environmental factor are concerend but you dont want to be tripping breakers all the time either

i havve a 400 wat closet and it has a 6" inline for the ac reflector and i also have a 250 watt light in htere i use for veg, and a 4" fan for the room exhaust adn when i add the 250 to the 400 watter in flowering i blow the breaker at least once a day so i cant use the xtra 250 watts so you have to thin bout that.

as far as bulbs the best are ones called 'Super NRG" the 400 wat hps super NRG bulbs puts out 63,000 lumens thats like which makes a 400 watt ballast with that bulb put out 157 lumens per watt thats more lumens per wat than a 600 usually a 400 watt with the average horti. bulb is 55k to 45k lumens which works out to 137 lumens per watt to 112 lumens per watt. so

a 400 watt setup with the super nrg bulb if we say the average output of a 400 watt is 50,000 lumens (which it is) and we are getting an wxtra 13,000 lumens out of the NRG bulb, it basically turns your 400 watt setup into the equalivilant of 562.5 watts (iff you divide what the usualy lumens for a 400 watt bulb are which is 112 lumens per watt into the 63,000 lumens you get 562, so it makes a 400 peform like a 562 wat light think of it like a 400 watt with a 150 watt added to it

now the 600 watt "Super NRG" bulb puts out 99,000 lumens which is 7000 lumens greater than the most common used horti. bulbs which put out any where from 88,0000 to 93,000 lumens and 93,000 lumens/600 watts is 155 lumens per watt with the nrg bulb 99,000 lum./600 watt= 165 lujmens per watt

id go with the 400 with a good bulb like the NRG bulb unless you have a dedicated 15 amps you could give your garden which if a closet setup which it sounds like from the dimensions or a cab set up never the less it will be in a room somewhere where it has to share a circuit with some stuff id use the 400 if u have adedicated line fuck it go with 600 or even 2 600 but th3en you need a dedicated line just for 2 600's alone and then another circuit for fans and environment controls .

i also wave 12 guage wire running throughout my house ( father= electrician and he likes to do that dinda stuff you know 12 ga. instead of 14ga.) and every once in a while when i use to run the 400 and 2500 watt lights together and pop the breaker, he would be like "what the fuck is drawing 15 fucking amps in this house right now! id be like my desk lamp sometimes ehen i turn it on it makes sparking noise and pops the breaker dad it got a short in it ill unplug it and throw it away. and id have to undo the 250 wat and only use the 400 watter.

i know its long but it will give him some seriuos food for thought

im thinkin bout doing a covert dedicated line for my closet when the cats away, i will lay......12GA. wire that is

PS> BY THE WAY ALL YOU GUYS NEED TO CHECK OUT THE "Super NRG" BULBS YOU COULD GET THEM AT WWW.INDOOR-GARDENING.COM (harvest moon) they kicck ass to the extreme they make a 400 perform like a 600 seriuosly look em up. they also make a "Solar NRG but it has less lumens i think the 400 solar nrg is 58,000 lum.
