I run 6 plants in aero post and use the spray heads but have always thought about just using the holes in the line. Looking good.

What did you use to seal the PVC to the tote?

Liquid Nails! we tried a couple different silicons but they didn't quite have the hold needed to hold any pressure (weight of the tubs, you'd move them and the contact would break). Liquid nails though you can pick up the buckets from the pvc (not recommended, but is doable).

Its been a week since my last pictures, figured it was getting time to show off. yesterday we put up the 4 bulb T5 HO lights, so things are about to blow up!!! The previous res didn't have cal-mag in it, and that is what i am attributing the lighter green color of the new leaves. I added Liquid Karma to this res change for the first time too. ENJOY!~

also wanted to show you guys the bottom of the buckets with the new drain system. I am showing you the one that had a very small leak so i applied some basic kitchen silicon to make a quick seal.

also wanted to point out that the small one in the second row farthest to the right is an Early Skunk (Early PearlxSkunk#1). i messed up the smallest of the kush's so my buddy hooked it up with one of his strains that were already to go out of the cloaner (talk about good timing~!)

Whats liquid nails? isit what we get as "No Nails" in the uk?

Nicely designed i love the mdf frames aswell.

the frames are actually one of my favorite parts of this project as well. it is a perfect way of making gravity work for you. there is a 8 foot long 2x4 along the back wall that one side of the frame sits on to create a slope for drainage. going to make the flowering side about 10 inches shorter and get a more squat res~

heat...

heat...

Well, I ran into my first issue with heat. had the t5's about 2 feet above the buckets, but the lids were still conducting way to much heat. Plants were starting to look funny so i put my hand into one of the buckets and the temps inside were at least 5º higher than the ambient temperature. my immediate solution before i head to home-de-pot and get real insulation, was to throw some panda film on the lids. a quick temp check 15 min later, and things were a lot closer to normal. also am prob gonna start throwing a frozen water bottle in the rez every morning, see if that helps with temps as well~

oh fuck. def was having temp issues. got some thermometers and was having a water temp of 78º in the res (was prob closer to 80 in the buckets). want to keep that below 75 if at all possible. the panda film helped, but i put some better insulation on top. pics soon to come. sorry for the delays...

The frozen bottles work for about 30 min, youd have better luck buying bags of ice... ive had 4 k shineing on non recirc dwc bins, 18 gals, an never had heat issues even under 4kw... your pumps are overheating the water... you need a chiller if you cant figure a way to get it under 75 ....Az

So, i ditched the panda film for some real insulated material. lulz, i'm freezing gallong jugs, so they are lasting quite a bit longer than 30 min ;)

monitoring the temps now in the res i haven't seen them go above 75 (hovering between 73-74).

raised the lights a little as well, that seemed to really help too~

check it~

looking good bro..looks like a solid setup.. i have had plans, if i ever did a tree grow, of building something similar to this, but using beer coolers as the containers to help fight the issues you are having

temps issues will cause problems in aero if your not careful

what size pump are you using ??and are you using a cycle timer or just 24/7 spray?? pumps will add a lot of heat

frozen water bottles/jugs will do the trick but it is very inconsistent.. i have been there and it becomes a pita.. there a little pricey but a chiller could be a good investment..it will keep it at a relatively contstant temp without any hot and cold swings, without the hassle..especially if i am reading right and this is gonna eventually be a 2k... also it only winter now before you know it summer be here again..

i dont use any chillers for my rezs, they are well insulated, and just i have extreme cooling (AC, heat exchangers, active intake and exhaust) and just try my best to keep ambient temps in check enough to keep my rez from overheating..so you could go that route to

until then you could do a few more things to help.. u could wrap all the buckets up including the sides, and especially the rez bucket even triple layer the rez...hate to be the bearer of bad news, but those containers by themselves wont do much to insualte from heat..

also a silicate product will help your plants be stronger against temperature extremes (i am not familiar with your nutes so if one of those is a silicate forgive me)

also it has gotten a litte of a bad rep as of late over mystery slime, but i still recommend sm90 to help your plants stay healthy even in warmer water temps.. sm90 has helped me through extreme temps in my aero setups and never had slime..there are a few others, but i find sm90 to be superior

with the liquid karma, i believe it is one of those nutes that will stain your roots... not saying to not use it, but it sometimes become hard for even a professional grower to discern between stained roots and unhealthy roots..something to think about

your setup is sweet.. it is nice to see a aeroponic tree grow..as it has been said, there arent that many of them.. i will be watching and best of luck

I'm using a 390gph pump. it doesn't seem to be all that warm, but putting it on a timer isn't out of the question. Winter is definitely on my side, have a nice constant source of cool air being blasted into the room. going to wrap the flowering buckets and the res will be hopefully in the veg area (they are in the same room just split in half by panda film, should be able to rig the drain to my advantage).

in the summer time i am thinking about switching to LED and T5HO with flowering spec bulbs in them. it gets a little warm in my neck of the woods...

put the res on the basement floor where it is cool. the other option is to get a chiller. that way when summer comes your ready for anything.

UPDATE

UPDATE

So i definitely messed up for about a week. Temps in the buckets were whack, same with the res. but all is fixed!!! air temp is at 79º, res temp is 72º. had both floating around 80º for about a week, this isn't at my house, so i'm only there about twice a week and didn't notice it in time :'(
but all is well, and growth is right back on track. enjoy~:dance013:
